The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has released a crucial communication before the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 regarding the alterations in the reservation system at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. The modification essentially affects the applicants under the category of Scheduled Caste - Telangana (SC-TL) for the law programmes of both the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) divisions.
The official circular dated November 28, 2025, explains that the SC-TL category is further divided into three separate groups:
SC-TL (Group I)
SC-TL (Group II)
SC-TL (Group III)
This change is in conformity with the Telangana State Rationalisation of Reservations of SC Act, and aspirants must find out their subgroup. The detailed government document outlining category classifications is available on the Consortium website. All candidates who earlier selected the general SC-TL category must update their reservation details by December 1, 2025 (11:59 PM). Failing to change the reservation category can result in the allocation of seats that are not in accordance with the reservation category of the candidate.
Moreover, the Consortium has recommended that students download and read the revised NALSAR Hyderabad brochure, which is accessible in the Participating Universities section of the official CLAT website.
How to Update SC-TL Reservation Category
Applicants under the SC-TL category must follow the steps below:
Step 1: Log in to their CLAT 2026 account.
Step 2: Click on the “Update SC-TL Reservation” button.
Step 3: Select the sub-category (Group I, II, or III) from the drop-down menu.
Step 4: Click Save to confirm the changes.
Candidates facing difficulties or seeking clarifications may contact the helpdesk through email at [email protected] or by calling 080-47162020, available on all working days between 10 AM and 5 PM.
CLAT 2026 Exam Date
The CLAT 2026 examination will be conducted on December 7, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM in a single shift across the country. PwD candidates will receive additional time as per applicable guidelines. CLAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by 25 participating National Law Universities. The test remains one of the most competitive examinations in the country, serving as the gateway to prestigious law schools such as NLU Delhi (through AILET), NALSAR Hyderabad, NLSIU Bengaluru, NUJS Kolkata, and others.
Important Reminder for Candidates
The Consortium has reiterated the point that it is the responsibility of the applicants to verify that the information regarding the category of their reservation is correct and that it is updated before the time limit. If there is any difference, it can have the effect of a great risk to the access to seats under the changed quota structure at the time of the counselling.
Candidates should be diligent in checking the official website - consortiumofnlus.ac.in - for the genuine updates and should not be deceived by the unofficial sources.
