National Law School of India University was India’s first National Law University established in 1986. The University is situated in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru. The Campus is spread over more than 23 acres and provides a vibrant environment for learning to the students.
NLSIU was established under the National Law School of India Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). NLSIU is affiliated with the Bar Council of India, recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and regulated by the BCI. The University campus has been equipped with a state-of-the-art library, multiple academic centres, a hostel and sports facilities, a cafeteria, etc.

Students who want to pursue Undergraduate courses, students must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:
Candidates must pass class 10+2 with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised board.
Candidates must apply and participate in the NLSAT-UG entrance exam and obtain the qualifying marks.
After obtaining qualifying marks, candidates must participate in counselling sessions to secure their seats.
For admission to Postgraduate courses, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
Candidates must have an LLB degree or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised university or Institute.
Candidates will have to appear for the NLSAT-PG to secure admission into the postgraduate programme.
Admission to LLM courses is based on the marks obtained in CLAT-PG examinations.
Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the year of admission are also permitted to take the Admission Test, but their admission to the course shall be subject to fulfilling the conditions stipulated in the Regulations, and producing supporting documentary evidence at the time of admission.
For admission to the PhD courses, students must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria:
Candidates having a 5-year/ 10-semester/ 15-trimester bachelor’s degree in Law through regular mode from a recognised University, having secured a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
Candidates having a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) through regular mode from a recognised University, having secured an aggregate of at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
Candidates must pass the NLSAT-PhD entrance examination for admission to doctoral courses at NLSIU.
NLSIU Bengaluru has recorded excellent placement records in recent years. The Institute received a placement rate of around 90% to 100% in the UG and PG levels. The flagship BA LLB course at the University has received a median salary package of INR 16 LPA, and the highest salary package offered in the 2024 Placement process was around INR 26 LPA.

National Law School of India University offers various scholarships and financial aid to assist students from socio-economic weaker sections. The Institute provides several scholarships funded by the Central and State Governments.
Other than these scholarships, the Institute provides different CSR-based scholarships like the ARRA Scholarship, funded by the Rosy Blue Foundation, which assists the students securing a top 20 rank in the CLAT Examination. Hindustan Unilever Scholarships are provided to the students of the 5-year BA LLB course. NLSIU Research Fellowships are provided to the students of PhD and postdoctoral programmes in the form of a monthly stipend.
