Indian Institute of Technology Indore Overview
The Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) is one of the newer Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and is located in Madhya Pradesh. The institute was established in 2009 by the Government of India. Academic activities initially began at a temporary campus of Devi Ahilyabai University, with guidance from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). Both IIT Indore and Mandi began academic work in July 2009.
Indore IIT has its permanent campus situated at Simrol, roughly 25 km away from the city of Indore. The origin of this campus was marked on February 17, 2009, when the Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD), Shri Arjun Singh, laid the foundation. The institute is fully operational now at the Simrol campus, and it has made significant progress over time to become one of the top engineering institutes in India. The institute's excellent performance is reflected in its national rankings. It was ranked 12th in 2025 and 16th in 2024 in the Engineering category, as per the NIRF Ranking.
The institute offers various programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Admission to undergraduate programmes like the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) is done on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) score. Postgraduate programmes, admission as the Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) are through scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the Joint Admission Test for Master's (JAM).
The selection for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is based on the scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), University Grants Commission Junior Research Fellowship (UGC JRF), University Grants Commission Doctor of Philosophy (UGC PhD), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET).
The IIT Indore campus is spread over 501 acres. It is an institute of national importance. All departments and facilities are located on this campus. IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria 2026
A wide range of Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes are offered at the IIT Indore. IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech
The institute offers various specialisations in B.Tech, such as Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Engineering Physics, and Space Sciences and Engineering.
Students must have completed their Class 12 from a recognised board for admission. Admission is done through the JEE Advanced, followed by JoSAA counselling.
IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria for B.Des
To apply for the B.Des programmes at IIT Indore, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Students must have qualified for UCEED 2026 (i.e., obtained a rank).

Candidates must have qualified in all five subjects in Class 12 or equivalent. Students who are appearing for the first time in Class 12 or equivalent are not eligible to apply.

Students from the Science Stream with PCM at 10+2.

IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria for M.Tech
IIT Indore invites applications from motivated candidates for its 3-year M.Tech program in Computer Science and Engineering.

IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria for MS (Research)
The MS Research programme in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT Indore is a two-year, research-focused Master’s program. The first two semesters include coursework, while the last two semesters are fully devoted to thesis research. Applications are usually invited in March/ April.
Eligibility:
Candidates with a B.Tech/BE degree in Computer Science or Information Technology and a valid GATE score in CSE/IT can apply.
IIT graduates with a CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or above do not need a GATE score.
IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria for M.Sc
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with first class/first division (minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CPI/CGPA on a 10-point scale). Relaxation in marks is provided to the reserved categories. A JAM score is required for admission.
Shortlisted students will be invited for an interview. The final selection will depend on how well they perform in the interview.
IIT Indore Eligibility Criteria for PhD
The institute invites applications for the PhD programme admission. Before applying, applicants should check the faculty profiles and departmental advertisements. IIT Indore PhD Admission includes an interview by a selection committee. Applying does not guarantee admission. IIT Indore Admission Overview 2026-27
The institute has announced its admission process. IIT Indore Courses include B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, MS (Research), MA in English and PhD. For B.Tech admissions, candidates must qualify through JEE-Advanced, followed by counselling conducted by JoSAA. Admission to the B.Des is done through UCEED, while M.Sc. programmes require a valid JAM score in the relevant subject. The M.Tech and MS (Research) programmes admit candidates with a valid GATE score in specified disciplines, with IIT graduates holding a CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or above exempted from GATE. The MA in English programme seeks applicants with strong academic backgrounds in the humanities and social sciences.
IIT Indore Admission to the PhD is open in various specialisations across engineering, sciences, and humanities. Selection is based on a rigorous evaluation process, including shortlisting and an interview by a departmental committee. Multiple admission categories are available, such as Teaching Assistantship (TA), Sponsored (SW), Defence Forces (DF), Institute Staff (IS), Self-Financed (ISF), NGO/Industry Sponsored (ISW), and Government Sponsored (GSW).
