Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) offers different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The IIT Hyderabad UG courses require candidates to appear for entrance examinations like JEE Advanced for admission. The admission criteria for the undergraduate programme of IIT Hyderabad are as follows.
Admission Criteria for Undergraduate Programmes
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and Bachelor of Design (B.Des) degrees. The admission criteria for both the programmes are different and are mentioned below:
Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech):
Entrance Exam: Candidates are required to appear for the entrance test, such as the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced and secure minimum aggregate marks for admission to B.tech Programme of IIT Hyderabad.
Eligibility Criteria: Along with the entrance exam, candidates need to complete their 10+2 in the Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry stream with 75% of marks from a well-approved state and central board.
Bachelor of Design (B.Des):
Entrance Exam: For admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Programme at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), candidates are required to appear for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) and secure minimum aggregate marks in the entrance examination.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates should have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from the Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities streams with 75% of marks.
Admission Criteria for Postgraduate Programmes
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) offers postgraduate programmes such as Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Design (M.Des) and Master of Science (M.Sc). Master of Technology (M.Tech)/Self-Sponsored Master of Technology
Entrance Exam: Candidates are required to appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and secure minimum aggregate marks in this entrance exam for admission to the Master of Technology (M.Tech) programme of IIT Hyderabad.
Eligibility Criteria: Students must have completed their graduation in the related discipline with a minimum of 55% of marks and candidates from reserved categories must have secured 50% of marks in their Bachelor’s. Master of Design (M.Des)/Master of Design (M.Des) by Project
Entrance Exam: Minimum aggregate marks in the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) followed by the personal interview are required for admission to the Master of Design (M.Des)/Master of Design (M.Des) by project programmes of IIT Hyderabad.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have completed their class 12th from a well-recognised state/central board.
Master of Design (M.Des) by Practice
Entrance Exam: Master of Design (M.Des) by practice in the other professional degree offered at IIT Hyderabad, and for admission to this programme, candidates need to pass the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), which is further followed by the personal and portfolio review.
Eligibility Criteria: For this programme candidates must have Bachelor’s degree with a duration of 4 years and have a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks in the case of SC/ST).
Master of Science (M.Sc)
Entrance Exam: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) conducts Joint Admission Test (JAM) for admission to the Master of Science (M.Sc) Programme.
Eligibility Criteria: For admission to the MSc programme, candidates must have completed 10+2 in any discipline from a state/central board.
Master of Arts (MA)
For admission to the Master of Arts (MA) Programme candidates did not need to appear for the entrance exam and candidates must have completed their 10+2 and must have secured 50% of marks, and candidates from reserved categories must have 45% of marks.

For admission to the B.Tech, candidates need to appear for the JEE Mains entrance exam and secure minimum aggregate mark. The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes in different specialisations such as Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, and more. IIT Hyderabad Important Dates for M.Sc. by Practice Programme
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad offers a Master of Science programme with a duration of 2 years. Candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree with 50% of marks (45% for reserved categories) can apply for the MSc programme and along with that candidates also need to appear for the Joint Admission Test (JAM). The registration for the MSc programme started on 5th September 2025 and the results for the JAM entrance exam are on 15th February 2025. IIT Hyderabad Admission Eligibility Criteria 2026
For IIT Hyderabad admission to UG programmes, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria which are as follows: the B.Tech student will have to sit for the JEE Advanced whereas for the B.Des Programme, the applicants need to appear for the UCEED entrance exam.
Also, candidates belonging to the EWS, OBC NCL categories must be born not later than October 1 2001 and 5 years of relaxation is given to SC/ST and PwD categories which means students from this category must be born in or after 1996.
On the other hand for both the undergraduate programmes at IIT Hyderabad candidates must have completed their Class 12th with 75% of marks for the unreserved category which is lowered to 65% for SC/ST/PwD.
For the M.Tech degree at IIT Hyderabad candidates must take GATE entrance tests and score a minimum aggregate marks and for an M.Sc. in physics/maths/chemistry, it is compulsory for the students to appear for the IIT JAM entrance exam, which is further followed by a personal interview.
The M.Des programme at IIT Hyderabad is offered in three modes: regular, project and practice. For the M.Des regular as well as project candidates they need to appear for the CEED entrance exam and for M.Des by practice candidates they need to appear for the DAT entrance exam.
Moreover in the qualifying degrees candidates should have 60% marks for M.Tech and M.Sc in the general/EWS/OBC-NCL category which is lowered to 55% in SC/ST/PwD. For the M.Des programme candidates need to have 55% (50% reserved) in the qualifying degree.

IIT Hyderabad Scholarship
The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has various scholarships that are offered to assist both meritorious and poor students which are mainly institute-based and under government schemes. The institute has important scholarships such as Merit-cum-Means (MCM) and ST/SC Scholarship which cover students of the general category and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students, respectively. This scholarship scheme mainly focuses on academic qualification and income restriction of the family.

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship

Application Procedure: Candidates can apply for the Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarship through the Academic Office of the institute or over mail, AIMS and any other platform.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) Schemes (including NSTFDC Education Loan)
An organisation of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, which is the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), provides financial assistance and different scholarship schemes under educational loans to the meritorious ST students who are unable to pay their tuition fees at the time of admission. Application Procedure: Candidates can apply annually through the NSP portal; Documents Required: Candidates can access the guidelines section of the National scholarship Portal as the documents needed may vary from scheme to scheme.
Important Information: Scholarship amounts are directly transferred to student bank accounts via DBT mode through PFMS. Candidates need to avail themselves of 1 scholarship per year only.
