The XAT Entrance Exam 2026 registration opened on 10 July 2025, with the exam scheduled for 4 January 2026. Organized by XLRI Jamshedpur, the test will be conducted in a paper-based format and will include sections such as Decision Making, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Verbal & Logical Ability and General Knowledge. The XAT exam will last for 3 hours. Although the General Knowledge section does not contribute to the overall score, it is considered during the selection process. Candidates are shortlisted for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds based on their cut-off marks. Qualifying the XAT exam is important as its scores are accepted by more than 160 management Colleges in India, which makes it one of the largest MBA entrance exams in the country.

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level management entrance exam held every year by XLRI Jamshedpur. It is used to select students for MBA and PGDM programs at XLRI and more than 160 business schools in India. The exam tests skills like verbal reasoning, decision-making, quantitative ability, and general knowledge. For the 2026 exam, registration started on 10 July 2025, and the XAT exam date is 4 January 2026. XAT is important because it checks critical thinking and decision-making abilities, which are key skills for managers. The exam is taken by thousands of candidates each year and is one of India’s major tests for admission to business schools.

Candidates can think about the XAT entrance exam after completing a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Moreover, candidates who are in their final year of an undergraduate degree can also appear for the XAT exam 2026 on the scheduled date, 4th January in the upcoming year 2026. XLRI Jamshedpur will conduct the exam offline, and the total XAT exam time given to the candidates is 180 minutes, which means 3 hours to complete the examination.

The expected XAT 2026 cutoffs for top MBA programs are generally in the 90–96 percentile range. For XLRI Jamshedpur, the cutoff for PGDM Business Management (BM) is anticipated to be around the 94–96 percentile, while for PGDM Human Resource Management, it is around the 92–95 percentile for general male candidates.

Furthermore, the Sectional cutoffs range between 83 and 92 percentiles across VALR, DM, and QA & DI. Other top colleges like XIMB, IMT Ghaziabad, and MICA Ahmedabad expect cutoffs in the 90–92 percentile band. Mid-tier management colleges such as Great Lakes, TAPMI, and GIM usually require cutoffs between 80 and 87th percentiles.

Category-wise, OBC candidates may expect cutoffs 5–10 percentiles lower than the general category, with SC and ST candidates needing around 50–65 percentiles depending on the institute. To secure a 90+ percentile, candidates typically need to score above 25 marks out of 95 approximately, with small differences in marks leading to significant shifts in percentile due to exam difficulty.
