Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam is a new IIM. It started in 2015 and was set up by the Government of India. It is part of the well-known IIM group, which is known for its top business schools in the country. The institute is also marked as an Institution of National Importance under the IIM Act 2017 by the Ministry of Education.
The Institute has one of the fastest-growing incubators in the country, called IIMV FIELD. It helps new startups and supports people who want to build their own ideas. The support and funds come from different ministries of the Government of India and from many known public and private groups. The Institute also has the Atal Incubation Centre. It was set up with support from NITI Aayog, Government of India.
The Institute has two campuses in Visakhapatnam, which is also known as the City of Destiny. One campus is inside the Andhra University campus. The permanent campus is in Gambheeram Village, Anandapuram Mandal, Visakhapatnam. The city campus is a temporary place right now. The permanent campus is still being constructed.

Post Graduate Programme (PGP): The two year, full time Programme offers the preparation of students to the positions of leaders and leads to a Post Graduate with a Degree in Management, which is considered to be the same as a master's degree by the AIU. It includes three terms for every year and a summer internship, supplementing the business insights and analytical capabilities with business guest lectures.
Doctoral Programme (PhD): The PhD Programme at the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) is based on intense training in research. Its ultimate goal is to make future scholars successful in their disciplines by publishing quality books and to make them competent teachers. The Programme takes a period of five years that encompasses one year of classes and the examination procedure, whereby examinations are done in stage,s and the thesis, which consists of a thesis proposal defence and final examination.
Executive PhD Programme (Exec-PhD): The Exec-PhD of IIM Visakhapatnam is aimed at sophisticated practitioners to meet the requirements of employers and also stimulate research and education. IIM Visakhapatnam Selection Criteria 2026
The selection criteria for the IIM Visakhapatnam 2026 batch follow a clear and easy method. The institute first checks your CAT score. It then looks at marks secured in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation. If you have work experience, that is also noted and given value. After this, the institute prepares a shortlist. For IIM Visakhapatnam PGP Course
The admission process for the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) 2025 batch at IIM Visakhapatnam is simple to follow. The institute looks at many parts before selecting a student. These include the CAT score, marks from Class 10, Class 12, graduation, work experience and the personal interview. The CAT score is checked section-wise.
The three sections are Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. Each part helps the institute understand if the student is right for the program. The full process is carried out in three phases. Every phase has its own steps. Students need to finish each step on time to move to the next one.
Phase I
In Phase 1, students who took CAT and selected IIM Visakhapatnam as their preference in the application form are considered. The institute first checks the CAT percentiles. Students must meet the minimum cut-off in each section as well as the overall score.

Students who clear the cut-offs receive an email from IIM Visakhapatnam. They must then fill out an online form on the IIMV website. Phase II
All students who complete Phase 1 and submit the form on time move to Phase 2. In this phase, the institute evaluates each studentās academic record and work experience. Class 10 and Class 12 marks are adjusted using the 90th percentile of the respective boards.
Graduation marks are adjusted within the studentās stream. Professionally qualified students, such as CA, ICWA, CS, or FIAI, get extra points. Work experience is awarded points based on the length of the work.

Phase III
Phase III is the personal interview stage. Students who are shortlisted for interviews at IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, or IIM Indore do not need to attend a separate interview at IIM Visakhapatnam. The average of their interview scores from these IIMs will be used.
Students who are not shortlisted by any of these IIMs must attend the interview at IIM Visakhapatnam. All information provided in the application form will be checked. Any incorrect or false information will lead to removal from the admission process.

Theāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā selection criteria for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives (PGDMEx) have three stages. Each candidate is required to undergo all stages to get admission.
Phase I: Screening of Applications
During the initial phase, a comprehensive review of all the application forms is conducted. IIM Visakhapatnam examines the data given in the online application form only. Shortlisted candidates for the subsequent stage are those who satisfy the minimum eligibility conditions. Shortlisting is a way of ensuring that only those persons who qualify for the basic criteria are allowed to proceed further.
Phase II: Written Test (MAST) and Personal Interview
Those who have been shortlisted in Phase 1 now have to appear for the Management Aptitude and Skill Test (MAST) and the Personal Interview (PI). MAST and PI are held remotely. The timetables will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates in advance.
Important Notes:
No alternative scores (CAT, GMAT, GRE, or GATE) can be utilized in lieu of MAST.
On the one hand, MAST and, on the other, PI are both compulsory. To be admitted, candidates must participate in both.
Phase 3: Offer of Admission

IIMāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā Visakhapatnam is very particular as well as transparent in their selection criteria for the Post-Graduate Program in Management for the Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions of National Importance (PGPMCI). They weigh each stage carefully. This eventually leads to a final selection process that is completely objective and based on measurable data.
Online Application Review
The minimum requirement for every applicant is to fill out the online form, submit a Statement of Purpose and their documents. Only those applications with complete and valid information will be allowed to proceed to the next stage. Any application form that has missing pieces of information or missing documents is regarded as incomplete, and the respective candidate will not be contacted any further.
Aptitude Test
Those who are qualified are selected for the PGPMCI online Aptitude Test. The exam can be taken at a local PTI or a remote centre chosen by a third party, and it is secure and monitored. In the test, they try to understand if the candidate has the logical ability to solve problems and if he/she is ready for the program.
Applicants may be given a PGPMCI Aptitude Test waiver only if they possess a valid CAT, GRE or GMAT score. In this manner, the score derived from the valid test is used as a benchmark for the evaluation.

The gender diversity score is a factor that ensures fair representation of female and transgender applicants in the cohort. Scores on tests are used only when they are valid and within the Instituteās accepted norms.
IIM Visakhapatnam admission offers are made once all the components have been added up and the final score has been calculated. Proposals are thus dependent on the marks scored, the number of seats available and the cut-off set for the batch. Only those applicants who fulfil all the criteria are sent a formal offer letter.
For IIM Visakhapatnam EMBA Course
Theāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā three phases of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) selection criteria for the 2025-27 batch are pretty much different from each other. Each stage is directed toward a certain fixed goal and follows some specific rules. The three phases are:
Phase I: Shortlisting Based on Eligibility
The first thing that is done with all the applications which are submitted in the online portal is a check. The review of each form is accompanied by a check of all documents that certify academic and professional records. Only those applicants who fulfil the eligibility criteria stated are allowed to proceed to the next stage. Incomplete forms, missing documents or entries that do not match the required standards are discarded at this point in the process. After the completion of this stage, the list of candidates for the next phase is ready.
Phase II: Executive Management Aptitude Test (EMAT) and Personal Interview
There are two components of the second phase. The first one is the Executive Management Aptitude Test (EMAT). The test is conducted remotely with the desired security features in place. EMAT is a test designed to check logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and a general sense of readiness for the EMBA program. An applicant can be given an exemption from EMAT if the applicant holds a valid score in CAT, GRE, or GMAT.
Neither performance in EMAT nor possession of a valid CAT, GRE or GMAT score ensures that the applicant will be chosen for a Personal Interview. The number of candidates that the Institute calls for the Personal Interview depends on the number of vacancies and the total number of applications received.
All non-exempt candidates should attend both EMAT and the Personal Interview. Those who do not show up at either of the two parts will be excluded from the admission process.
EMAT and the Personal Interview are conducted remotely. Detailed timelines are only communicated after the application portal is closed. An individual instruction regarding the Personal Interview will be there before the interviews are held.
Phase III: Offer Letter Phase
The final selection is made after the second phase. Every candidate is given a composite score. This composite score is the result of the combination of the fixed weights of the various components, as shown in the table below:

Admission offers are made on the basis of the composite score, the minimum cut-offs set for the cycle, and the number of seats available. Offers will only be given to those applicants who fulfil all the required marks for the test score, interview score, or composite score (as applicable).
For IIM Visakhapatnam PhD Programme
The selection process follows a simple and steady method. All application forms are checked in detail. After the first check is done, each academic area reviews the records in detail and then prepares the list of shortlisted candidates. These shortlisted candidates are then called to Visakhapatnam for the interview. The interview is planned for the first week of April 2026.
The shortlisting is done through a clear set of fixed parameters. These parameters may include test scores from GMAT, GRE, CAT, GATE or JRF NET. Past study records, work records and interview marks may also be part of the process. Each academic area may follow its own simple rules while choosing candidates. Any candidate who does not take part in any required stage of the process will not be taken forward for admission.
Candidates who receive admission offers must attend the Orientation and Preparatory Programme. This programme is planned for the last week of June 2026. Registration for the programme will also take place in the last week of June 2026.
For IIM Visakhapatnam Exec-PhD Programme
The admissions to the Executive Doctoral Program (Exec-PhD) are done in three main steps. The first step is shortlisting candidates for the Personal Interview. The second step is conducting the interview rounds. The third step is preparing the merit list based on the set rules. Each of these steps is discussed below:
Shortlisting for Personal Interview
Shortlisting is based on the Statement of Purpose, past academic records, and work done in the relevant field. The academic areas carefully check each profile. Each record is reviewed to see if it meets the required level. Candidates who meet the standard move to the next stage.
Personal Interview
The Personal Interview has two rounds. The first round is held in front of an expert panel. The panel reviews the full profile. The panel checks the Statement of Purpose, academic record, work experience, and major achievements. The aim is to see if the candidate is suitable for the program.
Candidates who pass the first round are invited to the second round. The second round looks at the overall suitability at a broader level. Only candidates who meet the set standards move ahead.
Meeting the basic eligibility rules does not mean a candidate will be shortlisted. The academic areas make the final decision after reviewing the Statement of Purpose, past studies, and work experience.
Preparing the Merit List
The merit list is made after both interview rounds are completed. The final score is based on interview marks, academic performance, work experience, professional achievements, and the Statement of Purpose.

Selection Process
All applications will be checked carefully. The SOP will be reviewed to see how well it matches the research interests of IIM Visakhapatnam faculty.
Shortlisted candidates will present their research work, research interests, or research proposals to the Postdoctoral Fellowship Selection Committee (PSC). This will be followed by a personal interview.
Based on the review and interview, IIM Visakhapatnam will offer Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF). Each selected candidate will be assigned a Reporting Faculty Member to guide the research work.

IIM Visakhapatnam completed the PGP batch of 2020-21 final placements with a perfect record, conducted entirely in virtual mode despite pandemic challenges and market slowdowns. More than 100 companies participated in the rolling placement process, including 73 new recruiters, offering roles across consulting, BFSI, strategy, sales & marketing, HR, and analytics domains.
The highest salary stood at INR 20.82 LPA, with the median at INR 12 LPA and the overall average at INR 12.62 LPAāreflecting strong recruiter confidence and an increase in participation over five years since inception. Top recruiters included Amazon, Deloitte, KPMG, Infosys, HCL, ICICI Bank, Mu Sigma, and Tata Power, with high demand from IT/ITES (37% of companies) and BFSI (11%), ensuring 100% placement for all PGP students.
The Career Development Services (CDS) team at IIM Visakhapatnam collaborates with students to manage a seamless, ongoing hiring process that is accessible to all qualified candidates, along with excellent campus support. Pre-Placement Talks (PPTs), brief 45-minute talks where businesses share their story and job openings, are the first part of it. Afterward, there is a lively Q&A to give students a true sense of the one-on-one interview situation. After that, students submit their applications via forms or resumes, and CDS quickly forwards them to recruiters for quick review.
After that, a week before interviews take place on campus, companies release shortlists, speak with selected candidates, and immediately make offers. In order to keep things simple and effective, firms follow up with formal letters within two weeks after students make their decision in accordance with institute policy.

IIM Visakhapatnam Scholarships
Students are also encouraged to apply for the various scholarships mentioned under the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) as per the eligibility criteria of the respective scheme.
Ministry of Tribal Affairs Scholarship (ST): The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, invites applications for the National Scholarship for Higher Education for Scheduled Tribe students (i.e., of PGP first year). This is a means scholarship that covers tuition expenses in full.
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Scholarship (SC): The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, invites applications for the National Scholarship for Higher Education for Scheduled Caste students from Meritorious SC students (i.e., of PGP first year). This is a means scholarship that covers tuition expenses in full.
Department of Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment: If qualified in accordance with the scheme guidelines, an individual with a disability certificate issued by any qualified medical authority and a minimum of 40% disability may apply.
Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (Backward Classes): The Indian government's Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is accepting applications for the National Scholarship for Higher Education for Backward Class students. This scholarship provides full tuition reimbursement.
UGC's National Postgraduate Scholarship (open to all categories): Only students who are accepted into the first year of a postgraduate degree Programme (full-time mode) are eligible to apply, and they must be younger than thirty on the date of admission.
CS (Minority communities) Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses: This scholarship will be given to deserving students from underprivileged minority communities who have received at least 50% of the possible points or an equivalent score on the previous final exam.

IIM Visakhapatnam Campus & Facilities
IIM Visakhapatnam has a green campus in Gambheeram Village. The Government of Andhra Pradesh gave the institute 241 acres of land for its new campus. The work on the land started in March 2018. Later that year, the Government of India approved the full plan. The campus is being built in different stages.
Big and trusted teams are working on this project. Arcop Associates is the main architect. NBCC is the project consultant. Shapoorji and Pallonji is handling the construction work. Step by step, the buildings and other spaces are coming up.
Until the new campus is fully ready, IIM Visakhapatnam runs from its city campus inside Andhra University.
IIM Visakhapatnam Student Clubs
The Students' Affairs Council is the main student group at IIM Visakhapatnam. It is a part of almost every area of student life. The council acts as the link between the students and the institute. It makes sure that both sides stay in touch and that information moves easily.
SAC also looks after student needs. It makes sure that clubs and committees run in a smooth and fair way. The council works with the institute team to plan and update rules that help students. There are eight members in SAC, including one class representative from PGP1. All members are chosen through a student vote.

IIM Visakhapatnam Facilities
Students stay in ten hostel buildings. The rooms are given on single or double sharing. All rooms have basic furniture, so students can settle in easily. The hostels also have a few helpful facilities.
There is Wi-Fi and a TV. There is a refrigerator. There are small rooms where students can sit and talk or study together. The dining hall is clean and spacious. Students can also enjoy indoor games like pool, carrom, chess and table tennis. The hostels are made to give students a simple, safe and comfortable place to live.
