Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, established as Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1847, is one of the oldest engineering institutions in India. IIT Roorkee Admission 2026
IIT Roorkee admissions are primarily based on national-level entrance exam scores. It offers UG, PG and PhD courses in Management, Engineering, Technology, Science and Humanities, Mathematics, etc. One-time payment of INR 6000 as an admission fee is compulsory to pay at the institute. Admissions to PG courses are based on JAM 2025 and GATE 2026 scores. GATE 2026 results were declared on 19 March 2026. Candidates who have appeared in the IIT JAM 2026 exam conducted on 15 February 2025 are eligible for admissions to PG courses such as M.Sc, M.Sc (Tech), M.S. (R), and Joint M.Sc-Ph.D and M.Sc-MTech. Candidates seeking admission through IIT JAM must pay an application fee of INR 750. Applicants are required to apply on JOAPS (Joint Online Application Processing System) portal for M.Sc admissions. IIT Roorkee Admission & Eligibility Criteria 2026
Admission to IIT Roorkee courses is based on candidates' performance in a national-level entrance examination. Each program at IIT Roorkee has specific basic eligibility criteria. IIT Roorkee offers admission in courses such as B.Tech, B.Des, B.Plan, M.Tech, M.Des, MBA, and M.Sc.
To pursue UG courses such as B.Tech, candidates must have passed Class 12 with PCM from a recognised board and have a valid JEE Advanced score.
PG courses admissions require at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with a valid national-level entrance exam score.
Candidates interested in pursuing M.Tech must have a BTech/ BE degree and a valid GATE score.
To pursue M.Sc, applicants must have a Bachelor’s in Science degree and a valid JAM score.
Candidates interested in pursuing MBA must have a Bachelor’s degree and a valid CAT score.
To get PhD admission at IIT Roorkee, candidates must have a master’s degree in the relevant discipline and a GATE/ UGC NET/ JRF score. Admission will be further processed based on the candidate’s performance in the interview and written test.
Note: Direct admission will be offered to IIT graduates with a minimum CGPA of 8.00 on a 10-point scale.

IIT Roorkee Scholarships 2025
IIT Roorkee provides scholarships on a Means and Merit basis. Candidates who perform well and belong to the reserved categories or are financially weak are entitled to these scholarships. Some of the scholarships are: Merit cum Means, SC/ ST Scholarships, Institute Assistanceship, External Scholarships and James Thomason Scholarship. Selection is generally merit-based and sometimes includes a need-based component.
James Thomason Scholarship: Granted to JEE Advanced top 250 AIR holders, who are admitted to IIT Roorkee. Financial assistance of INR 25,000 per year is provided to the awardee throughout the program. Candidates are expected to maintain 8 and above CGPA at the end of the academic year to enjoy this scholarship.
Tuition Fee Waiver and Free Messing Scholarship: Granted to UG candidates of reserved categories, candidates granted this scholarship are exempted from paying tuition fee, hostel and mess charges and get a monthly allowance of INR 250 per month in case of family income less than INR 5 LPA.
