Admission process for PhD and ITEP offered by IIT Bhubaneswar
IIT Bhubaneswar provides admission via a separate entrance test for PhD, and ITEP programs. IIT Bhubaneswar Important Dates and Events for Admission
IIT Bhubaneswar has outlined a clear and detailed admission schedule for the academic year 2026 for its UG, PG, and PhD programs. For B.Tech and Dual Degree, the JEE Main registration has already closed on 27 November 2025 for session 1 and with the exams being held from January 21-30, 2026. IIT Bhubaneswar Important Dates for B.Tech and Dual Degree
IIT Bhubaneswar B.Tech and Dual Degree admission process 2026 is primarily based on the results of JEE Mains and JEE Advanced examinations. The JEE Mains registration for the 1st session started on October 31, 2025, and already closed on November 27, 2025, with the exam scheduled from January 21 to 30, 2026. The registration will start in the last week of January for the 2nd session and will close in the last week of February 2026.
JEE Mains application fees are different for each category i.e. general candidates pay INR 1000 whereas reserved category candidates pay INR 500. IIT Bhubaneswar Admission Eligibility Criteria 2026
IIT Bhubaneswar provides admission to its various programs at three levels, undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD, with different eligibility criteria for each. Generally, for UG courses like B.Tech and Dual Degree, admission is based on the JEE Mains + Advanced score. The candidates are required to be under the age of 25 years for the General/OBC category and under 30 years for the SC/ST/PwD categories. Additionally, the minimum marks required in Class 12 (PCM subjects) are 75% for General/OBC/EWS and 65% or the top 20 percentile for SC/ST/PwD.
For PG courses like M.Tech and M.Sc., admission is granted through GATE/CSIR/JRF/NET, and there is no age bar here. Also, a General category candidate should have scored at least 75% marks or 7.5 CPI in the qualifying degree while an SC/ST candidate can be granted admission at lower costs if the degree is completed. In the case of M.Sc., the admission is through the JAM exam, and the minimum requirement is generally 55% marks or 5.5 CPI in the bachelor’s degree.
The PhD program at the IIT Bhubaneswar is open only for candidates with research assistantships at the institute. There is no age limit and the minimum eligibility is M.Tech/ME or equivalent degree with at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA.
