The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, is set to organise the GATE 2026 examination from February 7 onwards. Candidates appearing for the national-level engineering entrance exam must strictly follow the exam day guidelines issued by the authorities. 

GATE 2026 will take place over several days with two shifts forenoon and afternoon. On the first day of the examination, there are 16 subject papers scheduled for both sessions. Day 1 candidates are strongly advised to check and follow all the rules and regulations set up by the GATE organising institute to avoid any last minute problems at the examination centre. The detailed instructions regarding the exam day are presented here for the ease of aspirants.

GATE 2026: List of Papers Scheduled for February 7

The GATE MTech exam will be conducted in two shifts. The following branches will have their GATE exam on February 7. Candidates can check the list below.

GATE 2026 Exam: What to Carry to the Exam Centre

Candidates appearing for GATE 2026 must carry only the required items to the exam centre. The list of essential items is given below:

  • GATE 2026 admit card 

  • One transparent water bottle

  • Pen or pencil

  • A valid photo ID proof (same ID used during registration)

The GATE 2026 admit card is compulsory. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the exam centre without it.

Items Not Allowed at GATE Exam Centre

Candidates are strictly prohibited from carrying the following items inside the exam centre:

  • Mobile phones, calculators, smart watches, bluetooth devices, pagers or any electronic gadgets

  • Books, notes, papers, or any written material

  • Food items or snacks

  • Accessories (chains, rings, and more)

GATE 2026 Exam Day Guidelines

Candidates must follow the exam day instructions mentioned on the GATE 2026 admit card. Important guidelines include:

  • Make sure to reach the exam centre at least 90 minutes before the exam begins

  • Carry only the permitted items mentioned by the authorities

  • Rough sheets for calculations will be provided inside the exam hall

  • Candidates will not be allowed to leave the exam hall before the exam ends

  • The GATE 2026 hall ticket can be downloaded from the GOAPS portal at https://gate2026.iitg.ac.in/ using enrollment ID and password

GATE 2026 Last-Minute Preparation Tips

GATE is a highly competitive exam conducted once a year for admission to MTech, PhD programmes, and for PSU recruitment. IIT Guwahati is conducting GATE 2026 on February 7, 8, 14 and 15th of February.

  • Revise the syllabus multiple times

  • Practice previous years’ question papers and mock tests

  • Go through short notes for quick revision

  • Keep all documents ready in advance

  • Carry extra printouts of the admit card

  • Make sure to reach the exam centre well ahead of the reporting time
