IIT Guwahati released the official notification for the GATE 2026 examination on its official website. As per the notification, the registration for the same will start from August 5, 2025. There are two different last dates to apply for the examination. One is the 25th of September 2025, which allows candidates to submit their forms without any late fees. The other one is the 6th of October 2025, with a late fee charge. The exam will take place in February 2026 on the dates 7, 8, 14 and 15. Candidates are advised to check our website, collegehai.com, for the latest updates and any changes in the schedule, which could be possible.

How to Register for the GATE 2026 

To GATE 2026 Registration examination, interested candidates need to follow the instructions below for a seamless registration process: 

Step 1: Click the link we have provided you. Registration Link- GATE 2026 Registration Portal

Step 2: Now, a new window will open on your screen, which looks like this:

Step 3: On the website, you will get two different buttons to reach the application. 

One is on the top of the website with the other tabs.

Step 4: Click any of the buttons, and it will redirect you to the application form.

Step 5: Now you need to register yourself by providing your email address and registered phone number, which helps you to create your account on the website.

Step 6: After the registration, you will be able to access the application through the link, which will be given to you on your registered email ID.

Step 7: You need to fill out the details, like your academic grades, personal details, to complete the application process.

Step 8: At last, the application portal will ask for your documents to verify the information you have provided in the form earlier, like your marksheets and Aadhar card, etc.

Step 9: Before submitting the application form, it is advisable to cross-check all the information you have provided on the portal to avoid any mistakes or cancellation of candidacy.

Step 10: When you are about to submit the application form, you need to pay the application fee, which is:

Note:- Above mentioned fees are for a single test paper; if the students want to take two exams, they have to pay twice the mentioned fees.

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who want to appear in the exam have to fulfil the required eligibility criteria set by the conducting body for the year 2026. Read the full description of the eligibility criteria before applying for the exam:

Currently in 3rd year or higher of a 4-year Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch)

Completed Bachelor's Degree

Candidates who have completed a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, or equivalent

Postgraduate Students

Final year or completed Master's degree (M.Sc./M.A./M.S.) in Science, Maths, Statistics, CA

Integrated Degree Students

2nd/3rd/4th year of a 5-year integrated Master’s program (e.g., B.Tech + M.Tech)

4th/5th year of dual degree programs (e.g., B.Tech + MBA)

Professional Certification

Passed Section A of AMIE, AMICE, or AMIETE, certified by UGC/AICTE

Foreign University Candidates

Holding equivalent qualifications recognised by MoE, AICTE, UGC, or UPSC

Not Eligible

Students in 1st or 2nd year of a 4-year Bachelor's, 1st year of Master's, or diploma holders alone
