GATE 2026 Registration Dates Updated: Check New Schedule Here

IIT Guwahati has recently released an updated schedule for the GATE 2026 exam online registration dates. The commencing date of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), which was earlier set to go live on Monday, August 25, 2025, is now rescheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2025. In addition to this, the closing date for the regular online registration/application process without a late fee is now rescheduled to Sunday, September 28, 2025, from Thursday, September 25. As for the candidates applying for the GATE 2026 exam during the extended online registration/application with a late fee, the updated date is Thursday, October 9, 2025, which was earlier, Monday, October 6, 2025.

Candidates appearing for the GATE 2026 exam must note that no change has been made to the GATE 2026 examination schedule as of now. The current GATE 2026 examination schedule is as follows: Saturday, February 7, 2026; Sunday, February 8, 2026; Saturday, February 14, 2026; and Sunday, February 15, 2026. The announcement of results, the date is set for Thursday, March 19, 2026. The application charges for the GATE 2026 exam during the regular time period (August 28, 2025 - September 28, 2025) are INR 1000 for SC/ST/PwD/female candidates and INR 2000 for all the General category candidates, including foreign nationals. As for students applying during the extended period (September 28, 2025 - October 9, 2025), the application fee is INR 1500 for reserved candidates and INR 2500 for all other candidates, including foreign nationals.

How to Register for the GATE 2026 Exam

The application form for the GATE 2026 exam can be found online once the GOAPS portal is live for candidates to fill out and submit along with the application fee. Here’s a step-by-step guide students can have a look at to fill out the GATE application form via the GOAPS portal smoothly. 

Step 1: The first step for every candidate is to register himself on the GOAPS portal by visiting the gate2026.iitg.ac.in website. 

Step 2: Upon successful registration on the GOAPS portal, you will obtain your GATE Enrolment ID and will have to create a unique, secure password. 

Step 3: Fill out the application form by entering the personal details, communication details, academic qualifications, GATE test papers, and examination city preferences, a recent photograph, and signature, along with the scanned copies of other required documents.

Step 4: Ensure that the scanned documents are clearly visible and of high quality to avoid your application being rejected. 

Step 5: Check your category and pay the application fee accordingly. 

Step 6: Once the payment is completed, candidates will receive a fee receipt/payment number, which the candidate must keep safe.
