The Maharashtra School Education Department has announced that First Year Junior College classes will begin by August 11, 2025, across all junior colleges in the state. This decision comes even though more than 6.21 lakh students are still waiting to get admission.

So far, around 8.11 lakh students have secured seats through the first three rounds of the online admission process. The state has a total of 21.43 lakh seats available in 9,522 junior colleges, but only 14.32 lakh students have registered for admission.

To help the remaining students, the department has started the fourth round of admissions. Students can complete or correct their application forms between July 28 and July 29. Those who get seats in this round must confirm their admission by visiting the college in person on August 1 and 2.

In the fourth round:

  • 3,151 students have freshly registered

  • 2.60 lakh students have submitted Part 2 of their forms

  • 9,430 students have applied under special quotas

Even though many students are still waiting, colleges have been told to start classes on time. Officials said that all colleges must begin teaching by August 11, whether or not all seats are filled. Regional offices have also been asked to check and report whether colleges are ready to reopen.

Students who haven’t registered yet or need to update their forms should do so quickly. Both parts of the form, personal details and college preferences, must be completed and locked to be considered for seat allotment.

With only a few days left before classes begin, students and parents are hoping that the fourth round will help them secure a seat. A special round of admissions is also planned from August 1 to accommodate more students.

For updates and to apply, students should visit the official FYJC admission portal: mahafyjcadmissions.in
