IIT JAM 2026 counselling has started today by IIT Bombay. The students who have qualified can now fill out the counselling form online by visiting the official JOAPS portal. The last date to complete registration is April 15, 2026.
The candidates are given time to select and change their preferred institutes and courses until May 6, 2026. They should choose carefully before finalising their options, as these choices will decide their seat allotment. The first admission list will be announced on May 25, 2026. It will show that which candidates have been given seats based on their rank and preferences.
Only those students who have scored equal to or above the cutoff marks for their category will be allowed to take part in the counselling process.

The Candidates who have qualified can follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Visit the official website at jam2026.iitb.ac.in
Step 2: Click on the JOAPS portal link
Step 3: Log in using your Enrollment ID or Email ID and password
Step 4: Pay the required application fee
Step 5: Select your preferred MSc courses and IITs
Step 6: Submit the form and save a copy for future use
Documents Required for IIT JAM 2026 Counselling
Candidates need to keep the following documents ready for counselling and admission:
IIT JAM scorecard
IIT JAM application form
IIT JAM admit card
Provisional seat allotment or offer letter
Class 10 certificate
Class 12 mark sheet
Mark sheets of all semesters or years of the qualifying degree
Any valid proof of date of birth and nationality (such as birth certificate, voter ID, passport, or school transfer certificate)
Aadhaar card
Category certificate (if applicable)
PwD certificate (for PwD candidates)
Candidates are advised to make sure all the documents are clear,, as they will be required during the admission process.
IIT JAM 2026: After Application Form Submission
After completing the IIT JAM 2026 counselling registration, the next step is seat allotment. The seats will be allotted based on the candidate’s All India Rank (AIR) and their chosen preferences.
Once a seat is allotted, candidates will be given with three options. Firstly, they can accept and freeze the seat. They can accept it and wait for a possible upgrade, or reject the offer and exit the process.
To confirm the seat, candidates must also pay a seat booking fee of INR 15,000 for the General/ OBC category and INR 5,000 for the SC/ST/PwD category.
