The Delhi government has released a grant-in-aid of 108 crores to 12 fully-funded Delhi University colleges. This is the third installment of funding by the Delhi Government. The funds will be utilised to ensure timely disbursement of faculty remuneration, infrastructure maintenance and other important operational necessities, Ashish Sood, Education Minister said. Besides, the government has released another 24 crore for the immediate expenses such as building maintenance, electricity and water facilities, among other essential amenities that the colleges have to meet.
DU Diwali Gift from Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
The minister said that the release of funds was a ‘Diwali Gift’ from Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to the colleges. He emphasized that the grant underscores the current dispensation’s enduring commitment to financial and academic continuity in higher education at DU. CM Rekha Gupta has been actively working to transform Delhi into an education hub, ensuring that students do not need to go abroad for higher studies by strengthening the city's education infrastructure. She has launched several initiatives to improve academic quality and facilities, including new curricula focused on entrepreneurship, life skills, and civic responsibility. The Delhi government is fully committed to providing all necessary resources to support colleges, including timely salary payments, infrastructure maintenance, and essential amenities to ensure a seamless educational experience for students and faculty.
List of Beneficiary Colleges
The beneficiary colleges are Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Bhagini Nivedita College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College, Maharshi Valmiki College of Education, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences, and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
Education First Policy
The government has emphasised that they are following a policy of supporting quality education by financially empowering the colleges to nurture bright and highly-skilled graduates. The Delhi govt has released Rs 325 crores in three installments in 2025. The government strives to adhere to the motto of not leaving any teacher or student behind for want of financial assistance. In order to achieve the goal, the government is making sure the financial and infrastructure needs are completely taken care of without any delay or impediments in the transfer of funds.
