According to the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), selected faculty members may soon undergo a 2-year training program for directorship positions. Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) will help in designing and framing the programme. IIT Bombay will manage the planned programme with all IITs and plans to select faculty members based on their performance and research.
According to the officials, the minimum target of faculty members will be around 300 to 350 members to give training for the two-year programme. The IITs and IIMs are both planning to design the programme with three modules per week, each per year. IIT Bombay has appointed a team to implement the programme. Support from IIMs will also be requested for the programme.
As per the plan, each panel will be trained for a span of two years. The board will select faculty members based on a student-centric approach and a strong dedication and forward-thinking. The training programme will cover expertise based on behavioural, functional and other selected domains.
The director of IIT will be responsible for the effective management and discipline of the programme. The Head of Department (HOD) and deans will help the directors on matters of research and education. The nomination will be on a contractual basis for a period of up to five years or till the fulfilment of 70 years, whichever comes first, according to the official terms and conditions. The directors of IIT will be appointed through a different process, which will involve public advertisement, a selection committee and finally by the President of India.
