GATE 2027 Registration to Begin from September 2; Check Last Date to Apply and Latest Updates

GATE 2027 registration starts today: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has released the revised GATE 2027 Registration Date. According to an official notification released by IIT Madras, the GATE 2027 Registration will begin on 2nd September 2026, on or before 7 PM. Earlier, the registration window was scheduled to open on August 27, 2026, but it has been extended.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level entrance exam that is conducted to provide admission to M.Tech and PhD programmes offered by well-reputed educational institutions. For the academic year 2027, IIT Madras will conduct this entrance exam across 30 test papers on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. Apart from this, GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate programmes and recruitment opportunities in several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

Candidates who want to take admission in the PG engineering courses need to access the GOAPS Portal to complete the registration process using their email ID and mobile number and complete the identity authentication. GATE 2027 Important Dates

Eligible and interested candidates need to complete the GATE 2027 registration within the specific timeline to avoid any kind of last-minute mistakes. The important dates for the GATE 2027 registration are provided below in the table. 

The Regular Application window will close on 27th September 2026 at 11:59 PM. If any candidate misses the deadline can complete the registration till 5th October 2026 with late fees. 

How to Register for GATE 2027? 

Candidates can apply for GATE 2027 online through the GOAPS portal. To start the application process, applicants need to link their DigiLocker account to create their enrolment ID as well as Password. Applicants can also follow the steps given below to complete the GATE 2027 application form. 

Step 1: Access the official GATE 2027 website, which is https://gate2027.iitm.ac.in/. 

Step 2: Register using your DigiLocker account and fill in the required personal, academic, and other details in the application form.

Step 3: Upload all the required documents to complete the application form. 

Step 4:  Pay the GATE 2027 application fee using UPI, Net Banking, Credit and debit cards. 

Step 5: Check all the details carefully and submit the application form.

Step 6: Download and save the confirmation PDF for future use. 

Who is eligible for GATE 2027?

Applicants in the 3rd or 4th year of their undergraduate degree, and candidates who have completed their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, or Arts, can fill out the GATE 2027 application form. Also, there is no age limit for GATE 2027.

IIT Madras Introduces New Test Paper for GATE 2027

IIT Madras will conduct the GATE 2027 entrance exam in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for subjects from Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, and Arts. In addition to this, IIT Madras has added Robotics & Automation (RA) as a new test paper and updated the syllabus for some existing papers. Candidates are advised to carefully check the official information brochure, paper-wise syllabus, and eligibility criteria before filling out the application form.
