The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the institute- and course-wise postgraduate medical seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic session. The seat matrix will contain the names of the candidates with details of approved MD, MS and other postgraduate medical seats across the medical institutions.
According to the reports, NMC has released the matrix, which includes 10,756 course-wise seats comprising government, private and deemed medical institutions. Of these, 33,088 seats are in government institutions, 21,892 in private institutions, and 8,197 in deemed institutions.
The Commission has also clarified that the matrix will not include the request for increasing seats in the existing PG courses or applications for starting new PG courses that are still awaiting approval. Along with this, the PwD registration/assessment process will begin from 1st October 2026. Additionally, the Primary Medical Assessment Board will be open from 1st October 2026 to 9th October 2026 till 5 PM.

The NEET PG 2026 Seat Matrix shows that the total number of MD, MS and PG Diploma seats has increased to 58,000, which is approximately 11%.

NEET PG 2026 Counselling: What Candidates Should Check
After downloading the NMC Seat Matrix, candidates are required to check the details mentioned in the matrix. The details which are mentioned in the seat matrix are as follows:

NMC Notice to States and Counselling Committee
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has also issued a notice to all medical colleges, along with the states and the counselling committee. In the notice, the commission has stated that admission will be provided to the approved number of seats in the NMC seat Matrix for MD and MS courses. Admissions beyond the approved intake capacity will not be considered valid. Further, the Board has also mentioned that all the counselling bodies must carefully examine the published seat matrix and, in case of any discrepancy, error, omission and inconsistency, it should be immediately addressed to the MARB.
