The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released a recruitment notification for 44 posts in the Central Bureau of Investigation. The posts being offered are 19 Assistant Public Prosecutors and 25 Public Prosecutors. The interested and suitable candidates are asked to apply online through the UPSC official website. 

This recruitment is a huge opportunity for law professionals who would like to work with the CBI. The candidates should ensure that they are eligible as per the required specifications and apply before the deadline. The deadline for submitting the online application form is September 11, 2025. Applications will not be accepted after this date.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Posts

For the Assistant Public Prosecutor position, applicants will be paid under Level 7 of the 7th Pay Commission, between INR 44,900 and 1,42,400, along with dearness allowance. To submit the application, one should hold a law degree from any recognized university. The upper age limit is 30 years for General and EWS, 33 years for OBC, and 35 years for SC candidates.

Government employees are exempt from age relaxation according to the rules. Shortlisted candidates will be on probation for two years. Although they will be stationed at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi, they can be assigned to any part of India. They are responsible for dealing with court cases, assisting senior prosecutors, maintaining case records, and submitting reports.

Public Prosecutor Posts

The Public Prosecutor has a higher salary, which is at Level 10 of the 7th Pay Commission. The salary is INR 56,100 to 1,77,500, excluding additional allowances. Applicants should possess a law degree and a minimum of seven years' experience in dealing with criminal cases in court. 

The upper age limit is 35 years for General and EWS candidates, 38 years for OBC, and 40 years for SC/ST candidates. Shortlisted applicants will serve on probation for two years and can be posted at any location in India. Candidate's primary responsibilities are to head criminal cases, advise Assistant Prosecutors, maintain case files, and report to top brass.

The appointments to these posts will be made through the recruitment-by-selection procedure by the UPSC.
