GATE 2026 Overview: The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is a national-level entrance exam, and IIT Roorkee conducted the exam for the year 2026. For the academic session 2026-27, IIT Guwahati will be conducting the examination. Candidates interested in admission to postgraduate programs, such as M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD, as well as Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), have to qualify for the exam. The exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, and the results will be declared on March 19, 2026*

It covers disciplines such as computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and more at the top universities in India. The application process for the exam will start on 28 August 2025, and the last date to fill out the form is 28 September 2025. The exam will be conducted on 7, 8, 14, and 15 February 2026.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is a highly competitive exam in India for admission into postgraduate programs like ME, MTech, and PhD, and for recruitment into  Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). IIT Guwahati is conducting the GATE 2026 exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, in a computer-based format.

To be eligible for the exam, students must have a Graduate degree in engineering, technology,  architecture, science, commerce, arts, or humanities. There was no age limit for appearing in  the GATE 2026, and the exam application fee was INR 900 to INR 1800. The official portal Will declare the results on March 19, 2026*, tentatively. 

The application form for GATE 2026 is to be released on 28th August 2025, and the last date to submit and complete the form without a late fee is 28th September 2025. The application process involves registering for the exam on the GATE 2025 portal by entering details like mobile number, date of birth, email ID and password. After doing registration, candidates have to log in with the registration number and complete the application form by filling in all the details like educational details, the course applied for, and uploading documents. Documents required to be uploaded for completing the application form:

  • Educational certificates

  • Signature of the candidate 

  • Photograph of the candidate

  • Id Proof

  • Domicile Certificate (if applicable)

  • Category certificate (if applicable)

  • PwD certificate (if applicable)

After the exam is held, the IIT Guwahati will release the results for GATE 2026 on the official website, and the counselling process will begin soon after that. The candidates who want to appear for GATE in 2026 must know about the eligibility criteria set by the NTA. Eligibility is a mandatory requirement set by the examination body for all candidates looking to participate. Its eligibility criteria are:

Nationality

  • Foreign and Indian nationals are eligible to apply if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Age Requirement

  • No Minimum or maximum age restriction.

Academic Qualification

  • Students currently in 3rd or higher years of an undergraduate degree are eligible.

  •  Candidates with a graduate degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities

  • There is no minimum mark or percentage required.

Certificates Required

  • Some professional societies / Institutions like IETE, IIChE, or IIIE, conduct exams in various engineering fields. Candidates having certifications from such institutions should confirm that their qualifications are recognised as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. by MoE/AICTE/UGC/UPSC.

GATE Application Form 2026

IIT Guwahati will release the GATE 2026 application form on 28 August 2025 on the official website, and the last date to apply is 28 September 2025 without the late fee. Additionally, candidates can fill out the application form till 9th October 2025 with a late application fee. Candidates should register on the official portal using their name, mobile number, and email ID. After completing the registration process, students have to fill in the details like academic, personal, and course details. After registration, the candidates must upload copies of their educational certificates, a passport-size photograph, and a signature.

Candidates will be allowed by IIT Guwahati to correct details in the application window from 28 October 2025 to 10 November 2025. The application fee for the form per test paper is INR 900 to INR 1800, which can be paid online on the official website. 

GATE exam consists of 100 marks and candidates were given 3 hours to complete the exam. The exam comprises multiple choice questions (MCQ), multiple select questions(MSQ) and numerical answer type (NAT).

GATE 2026 Syllabus

Based on the subject chosen by the candidate, the GATE 2026 syllabus varies. It consists of 30 test papers, each covering a specific subject. All papers include a General Aptitude (GA) section, which is common for all disciplines and carries 15 marks.

The IIT Guwahati has announced the GATE 2026 admit card date on the official website. Candidates who have completed the application form can download the admit card from 13 January 2026 by visiting the official site. Candidates were advised to download and take a printout of the admit card well before the exam. They must carry the printed admit card and ID proof to the examination centre. The admit card contains details like name, examination date and time, photograph, and signature.

GATE 2026 Exam Answer Key

The GATE 2026 answer key will be released on 27 February 2026* on the official exam website. The answer key contains the correct answer for all the exam questions. It also includes the candidate's response sheet, which helps them calculate their score before the official results are declared. If candidates find some incorrect answers, they can object to the challenge window provided by the NTA by paying a nominal fee. After review, the final answer key will be published by NTA on 2 April 2026* after the result is declared.

GATE 2026 Exam Result

The GATE 2026 exam result will be announced on 19 March 2026*. It is an essential step for many engineering and science students nationwide who were eyeing to pursue PG courses in different institutions or get a job in PSUs. It will be held for other classes on 7,8, 14, and 15 February 2026. The official results will be declared on the official portal of GATE 2026, and candidates can check their details by logging in with their roll number and date of birth. It was recommended that the result be downloaded and printed for future counselling and seat allotment processes.

The GATE 2026 cutoff is the minimum marks required for admission into engineering and science postgraduate programmes in different institutions or for candidates looking for a job in PSUs. NTA  will release the GATE 2026 on 19 March 2026* on the official portal. The cutoff marks vary every year depending on the difficulty of the exam and the number of candidates appearing for the exam.
