A significant change to the board exam system has been formally announced by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE). Students in Classes 10 and 12 will be able to take the board exams twice a year beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
At a public event in Ganesh Nagar, Kota, Rajasthan's School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar made the announcement. The action aims to improve learning outcomes and reduce the academic burden on students in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Two Board Exams from the 2026–27 Academic Session
Every academic year, the RBSE will administer two board exams under the new system: one in May and June and one in February and March.
The first board exam will be compulsory for all students.
The second exam will be optional, so that students can improve their marks in up to three subjects.
The best performance from the two attempts will be taken into account for the final score, and both exams will cover the entire syllabus. The two-exam policy was implemented to increase evaluation system flexibility and reduce students' anxiety related to exams.
This change is consistent with NEP 2020, which promotes adaptable and student-friendly assessment models, Minister Dilawar emphasized. The system will also provide students with the opportunity to enhance their performance without being burdened by a single, stressful test.
