The NEET UG seat matrix has been updated by the National Medical Commission for the academic session of 2025-2026. October 10, 2025 onwards, the country has a total of 1,26,600 MBBS seats available, including the existing and the newly approved seats.

NEET UG updates its seat matrix periodically to provide fair and transparent admissions practice. Updates take place if new colleges have opened, current colleges have increased their current seats, or new state or central government programs have been added to college offerings.

Seats may also be removed if a college does not qualify for a seat because they do not meet the requirements, has legal issues, or does not conform to appropriate standards and regulations. If there are data inaccuracies or inaccuracies over court issues that determine seat availability, this may also trigger updates to the count. Monitoring updates to the NEET UG seat matrix is designed to provide fair counselling and ensure potential applicants accept the most up to date information possible with respect to available seats.

The National Medical Commission has revised the MBBS seats to a total of 9,075, excluding those under the JIPMER and the AIIMS. The aspirants are requested to follow the revised schedule carefully for understanding the updates of the newly updated seat matrix.

In the state of Andhra Pradesh, Santhiram Medical College, located in Nandyal, has increased its MBBS seat capacity from 150 to 250 while Anna Gowri Medical College and Hospital has received permission to establish its MBBS course at 150 seats.

In the meantime, states such as Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, among others, have increased seat availability for MBBS students throughout other colleges providing new opportunities for medical students. However, the Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Delhi experienced a reduction of 150 seats in its seat matrix.

NEET UG 2025: Seat Matrix revision

The NMC had added approximately 6,850 seats in the month of September 2025, but also removed a total of 1056 seats due to their pending approval from courts, delays in approvals, updates, and the addition of extra seats beyond the regular intake.

After 10 days, the NEET UG seat matrix was updated again with an additional 7,375 seats in total and another 456 seats removed again. This revision came after the Cabinet’s approval of the 10,000 MBBS seats following the third phase of the CSS expansion.
