Explanation of Freeze, Float, and Slide in JoSAA Counselling 2026
Candidates who accept their allotted seat can choose one of three options:
Freeze: The freeze option is for the candidates who are fully satisfied with the allotted institute and course. The candidate will keep the seat and will not consider any further counselling rounds.
Float: The float option is for those applicants who want to keep their current seat but also wish to be considered for a higher-preference institute or course in the upcoming rounds.
Slide: The last option is Slide, in which candidates are satisfied with the allotted institute but would like to be considered for a better branch or course within the same institute in future rounds.
Candidates should choose the option that best matches their preferences after seat allotment.
