The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released important instructions for students appearing in the JEE Main exam 2026. NTA has covered all the points regarding what to carry and what to avoid during the exam. According to the schedule decided by the NTA, the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam began on January 21 and will be conducted on the following dates as well: January 22, 23, 24, 28, and 29, 2026. Paper 1 will be conducted in the morning and evening shifts each day. Timings for the JEE Main exam 2026 are 9 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 6 PM. However, the Paper 2 exam will be conducted on the last day of exam from 9 AM to 12;30 PM.

Things to Carry for JEE Main Exam 2026 Session 1

NTA has clearly stated the documents and things a candidate must carry along with them for the smooth functioning of the examination.

  • Admit card (colored printout on A4 size sheet preferred)

  • 2 passport-size photos (same as uploaded on the online application form)

  • Valid and original photo ID proof (same as uploaded on the online application form) photocopies and ID on mobiles won’t be accepted.

  • PwBD/PwD certificates and UDID issues by the competent authorities, if claiming relaxation under PwD/PwBD category. They will be provided with scribes only if they’ve opted for and PwD candidates who are eligible for a scribe will be granted an extra 20 minutes per hour during the exam.

Dos and Points to Remember for JEE Mains Exam

  • Candidates are advised to check the exam date, timings, venue of test, reporting and closing timings of the gate on the admit cards.

  • Visit the examination centre prior to the exam date so that the candidate finds it easy to reach their exam on time on the day of exam.

  • Candidates who didn’t register through Aadhar are advised to report at the exam centre at least one hour before the gate closing time for the biometric process.

  • Candidates with physical disabilities are supposed to report early at their examination centres for the smooth functioning of the process.

  • Ensure that the Aadhaar biometric authentication isn’t locked on the day of the exam.

  • Candidates will have to fill in their attendance sheets in legible handwriting and put their signature and clear left-hand impressions.

  • The exam will be computer-based, and candidates must ensure that the question paper visible on the computer screen is as per the subject mentioned on their admit card. If the question paper belongs to a different subject, kindly inform the invigilator.

  • Carry geometry box set comprising erasers, pencils, crayons, or colour pencils for the drawing test of part III of B Arch. Refrain from using watercolours.

  • Diabetic candidates can carry eatables such as fruits (bananas, oranges, and apples) and sugar tablets along with a transparent water bottle.

  • If the candidates visit for bio-breaks or washrooms, they will have to undergo mandatory biometrics and frisking again.

  • Students appearing for the JEE Main Exam 2026 will be provided with the rough sheets and are supposed to write their names along with their roll numbers at the top of each sheet. Before leaving the exam halls, ensure to drop the rough sheets in the drop box; any failure to do so would lead to non-evaluation of the answers.

  • Duly filled-in admit cards should be dropped in the designated drop box while leaving the Examination hall. If the instructions are not followed as mentioned, it would lead to the non-evaluation of the answers.

  • Read the subject-specific Annexure 1 and the general instructions mentioned in the question paper carefully and follow the same.

  • Candidates appearing for the JEE Main 2026 exam are supposed to read the instructions on the Admit card and Information Bulletin of JEE Main 2026.

  • Sikh students can wear their religious symbols KIPPAN and KARA.

Dont’s for JEE Main Exam 2026

  • Diabetic candidates are not allowed to carry packed food items such as chocolates, sandwiches and candies with them.

  • Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2026 exam should not carry geometry, instruments, handbags, purse, pencil box, paper, stationary, textual materials( printed or written), eatables and water, earphones, mobiles, calculator, pager, Sliderules, DocuPen, Log Tables, Tape Recorder, Camera and any kind of watches including electronic watch with calculator features, metallic or electronic devices in exam hall as the exam hall may not have any provision for keeping the valuables.

  • It is advised to arrive at the exam centres on time, the candidate won’t be allowed to enter the test venue.
