The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on January 15 that the JEE Main 2026 exam scheduled on January 23 has been postponed in West Bengal due to Saraswati Puja. The announcement was made on NTAβs official X handle, considering the cultural significance of the occasion in the region.
This announcement is only for the candidates who belong to West Bengal. Candidates from other states will have to appear for the exam as scheduled. For the affected candidates, NTA will allot new exam dates from existing slots in Session 1.
JEE Main 2026 Postponement Official Notice
NTA took to its official X handle to announce the postponement of the exam in West Bengal. Candidates are to note that this announcement is not available on the official website yet. However, they are advised to check the official website jeemain.nta.ac.in for further updates and new exam dates.
The notification states that the candidates from West Bengal scheduled for JEE Main Exam on 23 January 2026 will be allotted another date among the ones already announced under Session 1.
Why is the JEE Main 2026 Exam Postponed in West Bengal?
NTA received several requests from students and parents regarding the overlap between the exam date and Saraswati Puja. The festival holds immense cultural significance in the region. This would make it difficult for the students participating in the festivities and rituals to appear for the exam on the same day.
The decision came as an acknowledgement of these concerns. NTA will be rescheduling the exam, keeping in mind student convenience.
When will West Bengal candidates get a new exam date?
The affected candidates will be allotted a new exam date from the existing JEE Main 2026 examination window. NTA will publish all the details on the official website. The candidates can access their updated admit cards and city intimation slip with the revised exam date once it is out on the website.
