For the first time, more than 10,000 girls have qualified for the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) after clearing the JEE Advanced 2026, making the highest record of 24.9%. The performance of girls is reflected in the latest results, which have the highest pass rate in the history of the exam. This is the major milestone in improving women's participation in the Indian Institutes of Technology IITs.
In 2026, overall, 56,880 students showed great performance and qualified for the toughest engineering entrance test, which is JEE Advanced. Out of the total number of 1,79,694 candidates appeared for both papers (JEE Mains and JEE Advanced). In the list of female toppers, Arohi Deshpande was the top-performing candidate with an All India Rank (AIR) 77.
Stats of Girls Qualified JEE Advanced 2026
According to official data, in 2026, a total of 40,562 girls appeared for the JEE Advanced entrance exam, and 10,107 girls qualified. Nearly one in four candidates have successfully cleared the JEE Advanced 2026 entrance exam, making a pass rate of 24.9 percent which is the highest ever recorded for women in the exam. Overall, 56,880 candidates qualified in JEE Advanced 2026, with girls sharing a significant role as successful candidates.
Apart from this, the number of girls qualifying for JEE Advanced has grown significantly over the years. The total number of girls qualifying the JEE Advanced entrance exam in 2021 was 6,450, girls qualified and the figure was 10,100 in 2026.
Trends of Women's Participation Since 2019
The number of girls qualifying for the JEE Advanced entrance exam for admission to top IITs has increased significantly over the past few years. In 2019, only 5,356 female candidates qualified, and this year, that number has nearly doubled to 10,107, an increase of nearly 89%.
Whereas the number of girls appearing for the examination increased by about 22% from 2019 to 2026, which represents a positive change in engineering education, with more girls participating in the exam and achieving success.
Apart from this, the introduction of supernumerary seats in IITs has also encouraged and improved the participation among female aspirants for pursuing engineering education.
Is a good rank in JEE Advanced 2026 enough to get admission in top IITs?
Arohi Deshpande has shown a great performance and emerged as the highest-ranked female candidate in JEE Advanced 2026 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 77. But admission to the top IIT is still highly competitive because of the good and record-breaking results in JEE Advanced 2026. For this year, more than 56,000 candidates have qualified, and 23 IITs are offering around 20,000 seats. Students who do not secure an IIT seat can still gain admission to prestigious institutions such as National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs).
