The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur has launched the country’s first Executive MBA in energy management, which is specially designed for working professionals in the power, renewable energy, and allied sectors. Created together with the National Power Training Institute (NPTI), it is designed to help professionals gain the skills and knowledge needed to take a leading role in India’s energy development and transition.
A total of 168 people from all over India have applied for the first batch of the program. After a very tough selection process, there were only 43 candidates from 16 states who were selected, which shows that there are many people who are interested in advanced energy management education.
Strategic Vision for Energy Leadership
At the launch, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, highlighted the importance of energy managers for India’s growth. He said, “Today, energy is real power, and India’s progress will depend on skilled energy managers.” He also mentioned that no other business school in India has offered such a specialized MBA before. Dr Metri added that as India aims for a $35–40 trillion economy by 2047, having clean, reliable, and abundant energy will be very important.
Dr. Tripta Thakur Highlights Need for Energy Leaders
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Tripta Thakur, Vice Chancellor of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University and former NPTI Director, who conceptualised the programme. She highlighted the importance of developing energy leaders to meet India’s expanding power generation capacity, which increasingly includes renewable sources.
