Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has begun the re-registration of students for the academic session of January 2026. The re-registration portal opened on December 01, 2025, for students studying in both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programs. Students can now visit the official website, ignou.ac.in, fill out the forms and submit them till January 15, 2026, which is the last date.
At the portal, a student can personally update their details, select their courses and pay the fees necessary for the next semester or academic year. IGNOU has announced that re-registration is a must for all students who are currently enrolled and want to keep their studies going in the next session. The university also warned that mistakes in the selection of courses might make it hard to move smoothly through the academic curriculum.
Students are permitted to pay the fees only through the authorised online modes such as debit and credit cards, net banking, or UPI. If the payment is taking time, the student should wait and not try to execute the transaction again in a hurry. In the case where the fee is double paid by mistake, the university will send the extra amount through a refund automatically.

Step 1: Visit the IGNOU official website @ignou.ac.in.
Step 2: Navigate to the Homepage and open the re-registration link under the ‘Register Online’
Step 3: Log in using the required details and fill out the application form and choose the courses you want to apply for.
Step 4: Upload all the necessary documents.
Step 5: Complete the registration by paying the application fee.
Step 6: Take a printout of the application for future reference.
It is advised by the university that students should not wait until the last day to submit their forms because a high number of users on the portal could cause technical difficulties. Students are encouraged to take a screenshot of the confirmation page and the payment receipt after the submission for their reference.
