The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) will be issuing the formal announcement for the long-awaited Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) 2026, which is planned to be held on January 17-18, 2026. Meanwhile, a Haryana Board official said that these dates are provisional and they are waiting for the final approval from the state ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌government.

"We have proposed the exam dates for January 17-18, but we are awaiting final approval from the government," said the HBSE official. "Once confirmed, the Board will begin the online registration process shortly. We are prepared to launch the application window as soon as the schedule is finalized."

This announcement suggests that candidates could expect the HTET registration window to open as soon as this week, pending government approval. The board has assured that detailed instructions regarding application dates, eligibility criteria, and other important information will be shared with the public once the schedule is confirmed.

HTET Examination Levels and Eligibility Criteria

Haryana‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) is an essential exam that one has to take before getting a teaching job in any government school in Haryana. The exam is divided into three categories, which are different levels of the teaching staff:

  • Level 1 (Primary Teacher- PRT): The candidates should have passed 12th class and have a Diploma in Education (DEd).

  • Level 2 (Trained Graduate Teacher - TGT): The applicants need to be a graduate with a Bachelors in Education (BEd) to be considered for the post.

  • Level 3 (Post Graduate Teacher - PGT): The candidates should have a postgraduate degree along with a ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌BEd.

Importantly, there is no age limit for candidates wishing to appear for the HTET examination.

Record Low Pass Percentage in 2024 Session

In‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ the last HTET session, less than 14 percent of the candidates were able to get the required marks for the exam. Out of the total 3.31 lakh candidates who took the test, only 47,000 candidates were able to clear the exam successfully. This shows how difficult the HTET is and also indicates that prospective candidates should be well prepared.

The Board is expecting a very large number of candidates for the HTET 2026. More than three lakh candidates are likely to take the exam in the January session. Candidates can also wait for a formal notification from the HBSE Board. The notice will have information about the registration process, exam pattern, and many other ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌details.
