The Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), New Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, have formally signed a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening scientific research, innovation, and academic collaboration. The agreement, signed on Friday in Shimla, marks a major milestone in expanding research capabilities and training opportunities for students and faculty in Himachal Pradesh.
Wide-Ranging Areas of Collaboration
Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, each institution will partner and engage in plans for multiple research and academic projects, including cooperative research, projects funded by DRDO, and supervision of collaborative student research. Students at HPU will also have the ability to train and intern at DRDO facilities, gaining hands-on experience in a cutting-edge research environment.
Modern research labs and facilities will be shared by the institutions. In addition, the possibility for DRDO scientists to serve as visiting or associate faculty at HPU will allow for additional expert guidance to researchers and students. However, the partnership will further support joint academic projects, research or innovation projects, and additional capacity building support through funding mechanisms.
Focus on CBRN and Healthcare Technologies
The CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) sciences are a major focus of this collaboration. The organizations also seek to promote research in fields essential to national readiness and healthcare technologies. It is anticipated that the combined knowledge will result in innovative solutions that will meet both military requirements and commercial uses.
At the ceremony, HPU's vice chancellor, Professor Mahavir Singh, said that collaborating with DRDO has always been a dream of his. He pointed out that this project is in line with the state government's goal of transforming Himachal into a progressive and green state while providing opportunities for scholars and students.
The INMAS-DRDO Director, Dr. Sudhir Chandna, emphasized the need for creative basic research from academic institutions nationwide. He promised that INMAS looks forward to a fruitful collaboration and is prepared to support HPU's promising research proposals.
