The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the CSIR UGC NET 2025 cut-off marks. This cut-off is very important for students who appeared for the exam and are aiming for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)Assistant Professor, or PhD eligibility. The results have been announced along with the subject-wise and category-wise qualifying marks, and the full cut-off list is now available in PDF format.

CSIR NET is one of the toughest exams for science students in India. The cut-off marks decide who qualifies for the fellowship, teaching eligibility, or PhD programs. Every subject has a different cut-off, and the marks also vary according to the category of the candidate. With this update, aspirants can now check exactly where they stand.

Minimum Qualifying Marks for NTA

The NTA has also clarified the minimum marks required:

  • General/EWS/OBC category: 33%

  • SC/ST/PwD category: 25%

Only candidates who score at or above these minimum marks will be considered for the merit list.

Subject-Wise Cut-Off (General Category)

Here is a quick look at the subject-wise cut-off for the General category (JRF):

  • Earth Sciences: 61.29%

  • Chemical Sciences: 52.68%

  • Life Sciences: 51.36%

  • Mathematical Sciences: 50.04%

  • Physical Sciences: 51.07%

For Assistant Professor eligibility, the cut-off is slightly lower:

  • Earth Sciences: 55.16%

  • Chemical Sciences: 45.68%

  • Life Sciences: 46.35%

  • Mathematical Sciences: 48.04%

  • Physical Sciences: 46.07%

For PhD-only eligibility, the cut-off is lower again, around 36–45% depending on the subject.

What this Means for Students

The release of cut-off marks gives clarity to lakhs of aspirants. Students who meet or cross the cut-off are now eligible for the next steps if it as a fellowship, teaching jobs, or PhD admissions. For those who narrowly missed the cut-off, it’s a chance to analyse performance and plan better for the next attempt.

This year’s cut-offs show that Earth Sciences continues to have the highest requirement, crossing 61% for JRF. Other subjects, such as Chemistry, Physics, Life, and Mathematics, have cut-offs in the 50% range, which is still highly competitive.

Next Step For Candidates

  • Candidates should download the official PDF of the cut-off from the NTA CSIR NET website.

  • Check your subject and category cut-off carefully.

  • Compare your score with the released marks to confirm your eligibility.

  • If qualified, prepare the documents and follow the official instructions for the JRF or Assistant Professor application.
