The Delhi Govt has introduced an Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy-based curriculum for the students of classes 6th to 10th in Delhi schools. The curriculum framework named as AI Samarth will be launched by the Government of Delhi in collaboration with Central Square Foundation (CSF) on 8 May. It is developed in partnership with the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at IIT-Madras.
Developed in collaboration with Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras, the initiative aims to introduce AI awareness and digital ethics at an early age. This curriculum is designed not only for students but also for empowering teachers with essential training and innovative tools to deliver AI concepts effectively.
What is AI Samarth for?
AI Samarth is designed for students from 11 to 14 years of age, who are studying in classes 6th to 10th in government and partner schools in Delhi. This curriculum is launched in five major languages: Hindi, English, Marathi, Bengali, and Odia. It will be with more regional languages very soon, which will ensure wide accessibility.
What Will Students Learn?
The AI Samarth curriculum emphasises that students must learn foundational and responsible AI knowledge. The curriculum is structured to be very informative, interactive, and practical. Students will learn the following concepts :
- Basic Concepts of Artificial Intelligence
- AI in Everyday Life
- Digital Ethics and Responsibility
- Societal Impact
The content is made around an open-source digital stack that includes interactive modules, videos, quizzes, and simulations designed to promote curiosity and responsible engagement with AI tools.
How Will It Be Delivered?
The AI Samarth curriculum will be digitally delivered through online platforms that allow easy access for both teachers and students. It will also provide Training modules for educators to ensure they are well-prepared to guide students through the course. These courses will be rolled out in various phases, with the starting launch on 8 May 2025, followed by gradual updates and language expansions over the next six months.
Why is it Important?
AI is already reshaping how we work, communicate and live. By commencing AI Literacy at the school level, the system management aims to equip the next generation with recent and modern knowledge that aligns with digital literacy. This will help students in critical thinking, ethical reflection, and technical fluency, and it will also enhance skills that are essential for the jobs of the future.
What is next?
This curriculum will start on 8 May, and students and teachers will begin engaging with AI Samarth through digital platforms. The curriculum team will also take feedback and learning outcomes from the teachers and students to refine the modules further. This initiative makes Delhi one of the first cities in India to introduce AI education in schools. It will have a strong impact on other states to follow the same.
