NIT Meghalaya Shillong Overview
National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) is a centrally funded technical institute located in Shillong, Meghalaya, and it was established in 2010. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and Post-Doctoral Fellowship programs in various fields, including engineering, science, and humanities. It is recognised by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
NIT Meghalaya is currently functioning from Shillong, Meghalaya. Later on, it will shift to its new campus in Saitsohpen, Sohra, Cherrapunji, which is still under construction. NIT Meghalaya Admission
NIT Meghalaya offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, PhD, and Post-Doctoral Fellowship programs. The admission to these programs is done through national-level entrance exams and centralised counselling processes. For B.Tech admission at NIT Meghalaya, candidates are required to score a valid mark in JEE Main, followed by JoSAA/CSAB counselling. NIT Meghalaya M.Tech admission is through valid GATE scores via CCMT. M.Sc admission requires a JAM score and is conducted through the Centralised Counselling CCMN. For PhD programs, the institute conducts a written test and/or interview.

NIT Meghalaya Admission Eligibility Criteria 2025
B.Tech: For admission to the B.Tech programs at NIT Meghalaya, candidates must have or equivalent education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Moreover, students need to have a valid JEE Main score. Final seat allocation is done through JoSAA or CSAB counselling based on the candidate’s rank, preferences, and category.
M.Tech: For the M.Tech programs, applicants are required to hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in a relevant discipline from a recognised university or institute. Admission is based on the candidate’s valid GATE score, and the seat allocation is conducted through the Centralised Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT).
M.Sc: Those applying for M.Sc. programs must possess a B.Sc. degree or its equivalent in the relevant subject. Admission is granted on the basis of a valid JAM score through CCMN counselling. If there are vacant seats, the institute may conduct its entrance test for selection.
PhD: Candidates aspiring for a PhD at NIT Meghalaya must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field. Preference is given to those with a valid GATE or NET score. Shortlisted candidates are further evaluated through a written test and/or personal interview conducted by the respective departments.
Post-Doctoral Fellowship: For Post-Doctoral Fellowship programs, applicants must have already obtained a PhD in the relevant area of study. The selection process includes departmental screening followed by an interview to assess the candidate’s research potential and alignment with ongoing projects at the institute.
