IIT Guwahati is going to take in a large number of students in 2026 and is providing a very wide variety of academic programs, starting with UG programs like BTech, BDes, BS, and further on with PG programs like MTech, MSc, MDes, etc. Candidates will have to take one of the tests that the institute accepts to get into any of the IIT Guwahati courses, for instance, JEE Advanced will be crucial for BTech admissions, GATE 2026 for M.Tech, and JAM 2026 for M.Sc. The application period will open in early 2026, with entrance exams scheduled as follows: JEE Advanced usually between May and June, GATE in February, and JAM in February as well.
The application process for the IIT Guwahati courses is very simple, as candidates have to go through the official admission portal of IIT Guwahati. However, before that, they have to fulfill the basic eligibility criteria for the desired course. The common eligibility for undergraduate programs is to have completed 10+2 with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and there is no age limit defined officially at the upper end. On the other hand, a UG degree in the relevant field is a must for postgraduate programs.
Moreover, candidates are required to score the minimum cutoff specified for admission to the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati according to their selected program. The B.Tech programs' cutoff ranks at IIT Guwahati for the last year were approximately 6000-7000, depending on the branch. For M.Tech programs, the GATE cutoffs ranged from 100 to 2000 ranks according to different disciplines.
At the moment, the academic session of both undergraduate and postgraduate programs is in full swing at IIT Guwahati, whereas the application process for Ph.D. applicants for the December 2025 semester has been formally closed. Among the important entrance examinations, JEE Advanced is for undergraduate admissions, GATE is for M.Tech admissions, JAM is for M.Sc admissions, UCEED is for B.Des admissions, and others, such as CAT, CEED, IAT, and NET JRF are for their respective programs. The most important dates to watch out for are GATE in early February, JAM and UCEED in mid-February, and JEE Advanced in May.
The admission process at IIT Guwahati B.Tech for the year 2026 depends on the JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations.
