IIT Guwahati has 11 academic departments that offer a wide range of programs at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. In addition to the regular undergraduate and postgraduate programs, IIT Guwahati provides two structured online degrees to various students. The first one, the B.Sc. (Honours) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is open to students who have completed 12th grade with an aggregate score of at least 60% and Mathematics as a key subject. This program is totally online, lasts four years, and is based on a trimester system. It includes data science and AI from the very basics to the most advanced concepts. The course also entails practical training, internships, and the use of state-of-the-art computing facilities. Students have different exit options, obtaining either certificates, diplomas, or degrees according to the length of their study. Based on the eligibility criteria of this program, it is the responsibility of the candidates to achieve a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics in their class 12th examination. 

On the other hand, the M.Tech in Flood and Water Resources Management is a 2-year hybrid course designed for working professionals. It is open to candidates with a 4-year BE/B.Tech degree in Civil, Agriculture, or related fields with a minimum of 60% marks and a year of experience in the water sector. The GATE score is not required for this program and admissions are based on a test and interview conducted by IIT Guwahati. The program is aimed at professionals who have to manage their time between work and study.

The seat matrix of IIT Guwahati courses 2025 gives complete information about the number of undergraduate and postgraduate seats, along with category-wise and gender-wise reservations. The matrix covers the entire BTech program with its gender-neutral and female-only seat breakdown. Chemical Engineering is at the top, with a total of 82 seats (74 gender-neutral and 18 female-only, including supernumerary seats). The sum of the total UG programs is 1,817 seats (962 male and 855 female). Thereafter, the PG seat matrix also indicates around 650 M.Tech seats distributed across several streams, 90 for MA, 63 for M.Des, and 18 M.S(Research) seats. The IIT Guwahati Courses Seat Matrix 2025 for the UG category majorly focuses on the B.Tech programs offered in various engineering disciplines. In the seat matrix, there are two types of seats: gender-neutral seats that anyone can compete for and female-only seats, which include supernumerary seats to encourage more women to join.

The Chemical Engineering program has 74 gender-neutral seats and 18 female-only seats, totaling 82 seats, with 10 specifically being female supernumerary seats. Other branches like Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, and Biosciences also have significant seats in both categories. However, the IIT Guwahati offers around 962 gender-neutral seats in total and 855 female-only seats across its UG programs, with 107 female supernumerary seats included.
