The Times Higher Education World Rankings 2026 have been released and are now available on their official website. This time Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore ranking has risen to the 201-250 rank band, maintaining its position as one of the top indian universities.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISC) has now become the only indian university in the top 250. According to Times Higher Education Data, it is the first time that India is now home to the second-highest number of ranked universities, behind the USA.

Indian institutes such as Saveetha Institute of Medical & Technical Sciences in Chennai is in the 351-400 rank band this year, its better ranking than their last year ranking, which was around the 401-500 band, while Delhi’s one of the recognised university, Jamia Milia Islamia, and Himachal’s Shoolini University shares the same ranking band of 401-500.
Whereas Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Indian Institute of Technology Indore, KIIT University in Bhubaneshwar, Lovely Professional University in Punjab (LPU), Mahatma Gandhi University based in Kerala, and UPES University Dehradun are in the joint position rank band of 501-600.
Then comes the 601-800 rank band, held by over 15 indian institutes, including Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Amity University (Noida), Chitakar University (Chandigarh), Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT), and a few more.
