Tamil Nadu State Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has conveyed that schools will reopen on 2 June 2025 after the summer break.
After the summer break, which started in April, schools are set to reopen as planned. Previously, there were concerns about the extreme heat, which might delay the new academic year. However, the early arrival of the monsoon has provided significant relief, encouraging the Directorate of School Education to confirm that classes for all the students will start according to the previous schedule, without any delay.
During a key meeting with education officials from multiple districts, State Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi outlined a set of guidelines to facilitate a seamless return to school, with a special focus given to the students from rural areas and economically backwards backgrounds.
The minister stressed the importance of dependable transportation for students in remote areas. He directed District Principal Education Officers to oversee bus availability closely and, if necessary, they should collaborate with the transportation department to arrange school bus services.
One of the important issues discussed in the meeting was the issue of students in private schools whose families are struggling with poverty and are unable to clear the pending fees. This often leads to withholding of education certificates. The education minister asked the officials to get in touch with private school managements to retrieve these documents, ensuring that financial difficulties do not hamper any student's academic progress.
In preparing for the school reopening, the minister instructed the responsible persons to distribute all the learning materials, like textbooks, notebooks, and school bags, to the students on the first day of school.
