NMC Directions to Medical Colleges on MBBS Admissions
The NMC has requested medical colleges to follow the latest approved MBBS seat intake for the 2026-27 academic session. Colleges cannot admit students beyond the number of seats mentioned in the revised NMC seat matrix.
NMC has made it clear that admitting students over the approved intake will be treated as a violation of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 and the rules made under it.
The Commission has also asked medical colleges to check their details in the updated seat matrix. If there is any error or missing information related to a college, its approved seats or other details, the college should report it to the President or Director, Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), for further review and necessary action.
NMC Sets Rules for MBBS Counselling and Seat Allocation
The NMC has asked counselling committees to use the latest MBBS seat matrix while conducting the admissions for this academic year. The number of seats shown during counselling must match the intake approved by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
If there is any difference in the approved numbers of seats, then counselling committees should refer the matter to MARB for clarification. They have also been instructed to not allow admissions beyond the number of seats officially approved and notified by MARB.
