The Ministry of Education has officially released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 on 4 September 2025. The list has included India’s top-performing colleges. This year, 2025, has marked the 10th edition of the NIRF rankings, which continue to serve as a trusted benchmark for evaluating higher education institutions across the country.
The NIRF rankings are based on five key parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception. A new addition in 2025 is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) category, which recognizes colleges contributing to socially responsible and globally aligned education.

What Makes NIRF Rankings Important?
The NIRF rankings help students and parents make informed decisions about higher education by offering a transparent and data-driven evaluation of institutions. Colleges are assessed not just on academic performance but also on inclusivity, innovation, and societal impact. This helps the candidates to decide where they should continue their higher education for a secure career.
The inclusion of the SDG category this year highlights a shift toward recognizing institutions that promote sustainability, equity, and global awareness in their curriculum and campus practices.
How Are Colleges Ranked in NIRF?
Each college is scored out of 100 across the five main parameters. These scores are then aggregated to determine the final rank. The rankings are compiled by a core committee set up by the Ministry of Education.
