Educational institutions across several northern states are expected to remain closed on November 24 and 25, 2025, in observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas. The day commemorates the sacrifice of the ninth Sikh Guru, who gave his life in 1675 to defend religious freedom during the Mughal era. But for 2025, there is some confusion. For a few states, the holiday is on 24th November 2025, while some schools and institutions will remain closed on 25th November 2025.
UP Officially Shifts Holiday to November 25
In a formal announcement, the Uttar Pradesh government has already revised its gazetted holiday list. The General Administration Department issued an order confirming the state's decision to observe Shaheedi Diwas on November 25, 2025, for some of the states, whereas November 24 for other states.
