The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has announced the two paper combinations for the GATE 2026 on its official website at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The candidates are supposed to choose their preferences for the primary and secondary papers.
The GATE 2026, to be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026 act as a portal for graduates of engineering, science, and architecture to pursue postgraduate programs such as M.Tech, MS, PhD from the best institutes in India like the IITs and IISc, and to attain coveted positions in Public Sector Undertakings based on their aptitude and knowledge of the core subjects of their undergraduate course of study.
This year, IIT Guwahati has released a two paper combination list for GATE 2026. The candidates are to choose a second paper as per their preference. The candidates can choose their second paper’s preference only from the combination list of the papers released officially.
The institute has also released a new sectional paper Energy Science under paper code of XE-1 under the Energy Sciences course. For this year, the GATE 2026 will be held over 30 papers, entailing both the full and the sectional papers.

GATE 2026 Important Instructions:
The IIT Guwahati has released the following instructions for the GATE 2026 Exam:
IIT Guwahati has confirmed that all papers of GATE 2026 will be in English.
Candidates who will be applying for two papers are required to first select a primary paper, then choose the secondary paper from the only approved combinations.
If combinations are selected out of the approved combinations either during registration or the extended registration period, they will not be accepted.
There is a possibility that the Institute may decide to allow more combinations in the future, based on the growth of infrastructure and defined available time.
The designated examination centre for the second paper could be in a different location than the first if it is logistically possible, but will still be in the same region.
In the case of unforeseen circumstances, if the second paper combination gets withdrawn after registration, then the registration fee of the second paper will be refunded.
The examination will occur on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 of 2026 with two shifts per day.
The portal for on-line registration will open on August 25, and candidates will apply for registration through the link on the respective website.
