Arunachal CM Pema Khandu Inaugurates Academic and Administrative Blocks Under NEP 2020

Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Pema Khandu, inaugurated two new academic and administrative blocks at Dorjee Khandu Government College in Tawang. During this event, Khandu said that “we take another firm step towards nurturing the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change-makers from the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh.”

He also mentioned that he is now executing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to ensure that quality, affordability, equity, and accountability in education is accessible for everyone. 

Arunachal Pradesh Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship

The Chief Minister, highlighting the transformative reform under the NEP 2020 and said that entire educational institutions in the state are working towards strengthening the national framework. Mr CM also announced the Dorjee Khandu merit scholarship scheme for the current academic year. Earlier, the scholarship scheme amount was INR 35,000, INR 23,000, and INR 15,000 for first, second, and third position in academics, respectively. Now he has increased the amount to INR 5 lakh, INR 3 lakh, and INR 2 lakh, respectively.

The Chief Minister expresses his pride over the college’s outstanding performance for consistently maintaining over 95% of passing percentage, and achieved 100% result in ht last two academic years.

He instructed the Tawang deputy commissioner to work with the principal on acquiring furniture, marking the boundary, and issuing a land allotment certificate, while guaranteeing funding for building a boundary wall. 

Understanding the significance of sports, Khandu recommended establishing a dedicated playground for the college close to Tawang Stadium and suggested converting nearby old structures for this purpose. He promised that additional infrastructure would be developed gradually.

CM Thought for Students

He encouraged students to maintain this tradition, stating, “Discipline is the foundation of success. I urge all students to carry this value with you beyond this campus and throughout your professional journey.”

Khandu expressed his pleasure that in a short time, Dorjee Khandu Government College has become one of the most disciplined and result-focused institutions in Arunachal Pradesh. In response to a memorandum from the college principal, the Chief Minister announced that the process to approve additional faculty and ministerial staff is already in progress.

The Chief Minister conveyed sincere thanks to the college community for preserving the legacy of his late father, the college’s namesake, by supporting the Karamveer Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship funded by his family.

Praising Principal Dr Yeshi Gyetsen’s efforts, the Chief Minister applauded the institution for its swift progress academically and infrastructurally since starting in 2016 with a temporary building.  

The inauguration event was graced by Advisor (Education) Mutchu Mithi, MLAs Phurpa Tsering, Tsering Lhamu, and Namgey Tsering, as well as Education Commissioner Amjad Tak and the Deputy Commissioner of Tawang.
