IIM Calcutta placement process is divided into 3 parts i.e summer placements, lateral placements and final placements. The placement makes sure that every candidate gets opportunities according to their needs and calibre.
In the summer placements, students are required to take an 8 week summer internship after the completion of their first year. It is compulsory to take and has a duration of 2 months which generally takes place in the months of April and May.
The process starts around the month of November and helps students as well as firms to find better fits. The internship also works as a live project for students to apply their learning from the first year in a real word environment and give them some clarity about the career path they want to pursue.
The selection is based on the personal interviews that are held on campus. Students once hired work under the supervision of a company executive who is their company project guide. The company executives evaluate the students and send their report back to the institute. At the end of the internship, students are required to submit a final summer project report along with the feedback of their company project guide.
These placements are held for students who have a lot of work experience. To be eligible for lateral placements students should have at least 10 months or more work experience. The timeline for these placements is just one - two years before the final placements. Students hired in these placements are generally given the senior and middle management roles.
Final placements take place in the month of March every year at the end of the 2 year programme. During these placements students are hired for full time roles in various sectors and industries. All the students are eligible to apply irrespective of whether they have work experience or not.
The process of final placements is similar to summer placements as both are conducted in one day in an on-campus setting.
