Candidates mainly have two ways to register for the TOEFL 2025 exam: first, through the official ETS website, and second is by phone. Registration can also be done via Mail. 

1. TOEFL Online Registration: The first and most popular method to register for the TOEFL exam 2025 is the online registration.

Below are the steps on how to register for the TOEFL exam online:

Step 1: Go to the official ETS TOEFL website and create an ETS account.

Step 2: Now, search for your location to find test appointments near this location. 

Step 3: In the third step, choose the test type from At Home or Test Center, and then pick a test date. 

Step 4: Next, select the time slot and tap on the save and continue option.

Step 5: Complete the registration form by filling in all the required information, including name, date of birth, address, and phone number. 

Step 6: After this, click on the Continue to CART option.

Step 7: Pay the exam fee of INR 17,550 using available payment methods. 

Step 8: After payment, you will receive a confirmation email with all your test details.

Additionally, Candidates must also download and test the ETS Secure Browser and check that they meet all the technical and environment requirements as well.

2. TOEFL Phone Registration: The TOEFL Phone Registration method is an alternative to online registration, available every day from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM IST. During the call, candidate will need to provide all the details as simailr to online registration process. Phone registration closes 7 days before the test date for regular registration, and express phone registration closes the day before the test at 5 PM local test center time, so it is advisable to register in advance to avoid late fees or unavailability.

To register by phone, candidates should follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official ETS contact page at https://www.ets.org/contact/ and check the contact details for their country.

Step 2: On the contact page, you will see two options: Testing Inquiries and At-home Testing.

Step 3: Select Testing Inquiries to get information and register for the TOEFL test at a test center by phone. If you want to register for the Home Edition, choose At-home Testing.

Document Requirements for TOEFL Registration

The following are the document specifications for TOEFL registration:

• Valid Government-Issued Photo Identification

  • The candidate must present an original, physical government-issued ID. Photocopies or digital versions are not accepted.

  • The ID must be current and not expired, issued by the government of the candidate’s country of citizenship or residence.

  • It should clearly display the candidate’s full name and date of birth, matching exactly the information provided during registration (without accents or special characters).

  • The ID must also include a recent photo and the candidate’s signature, both of which must be recognizable and consistent with the registration details.

    • Commonly accepted IDs include a Valid Passport, a National or state identity card, or a Military ID card

• Name Matching

  • The name used by the candidate to register must be the same as the name on the ID.

• Additional Requirements for Candidates Under 15

  • A parent or authorized adult must accompany candidates under 15.

  • Both the candidate and the accompanying adult need valid IDs.

  • A signed parental consent form may also be required.

• Supplementary Identification  

  • If the candidate’s primary ID lacks a photo, signature, or full name, a secondary ID may be required. This supplemental ID must also be government-issued with a photo and a signature.

  • Examples include student ID cards, official letters confirming identity, driver’s license renewal certificates, or military IDs.

In any case, if a candidate reschedules or cancels their exam appointment, they have to request a minimum of 4 days earlier to their test date. They can simply visit the ETS website to cancel or reschedule their test. In addition, they can do a test cancellation via phone. By doing so within the specified time duration, the candidate will get a 50% refund of the test fee paid.
