Types of Scoring
In the Scoring process, PTE follows two main scoring methods:
1. All-or-Nothing Scoring: Some question types are judged in a straightforward way
If the answer is correct, a candidate will earn the full points for that question.
If the answer is incorrect, receive zero points for that question.
2. Partial Credit Scoring: If some questions are partially correct, a candidate will be given some marks.
Fully correct answers: Students will receive the maximum points for a correct answer.
Partially correct answers: Candidates will receive a few marks but not the full marks if the answer is close to the correct answer.
Completely incorrect answers: Zero marks will be given for the incorrect answer.
This system is called partial credit scoring, as it rewards you for answers that are not entirely correct but still demonstrate some understanding.
Special Scoring Rules
There are three specific question types that use a unique scoring system:
Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers (Reading)
Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers (Listening)
Highlight incorrect words
For these, incorrect selections result in point deductions. For example, if you select two correct options (+2 points) and two incorrect ones (-2 points), your total score for that question would be zero (2 - 2 = 0).
Note: This penalty system does not apply to any other question types.
If a candidate is not satisfied with their marks given in the examination or if they want to recheck their score, they can request to rescore process with INR 10,731 or USD 125. After rechecking if the obtained scores improve, the full amount will be refunded to the candidate. Students can apply for a rescore within 14 days after PTE Exam results are received. There is very little possibility of any discrepancy because the major test part is checked by machine, but some part is manually checked by a person.
It is important to know that the new score will overwrite the previous score, and no students will be able to use the previous score. The score can go down as well in some cases, so it is important to be confident before applying for a rescore. To request for rescore, connect with the customer support team of the PTE Exam.
PTE Exam Results 2025: Technical Review
If the speaking score is affected by any technical issue, then the candidate can request for technical review. This is mainly for audio answers. If a candidate believes that their speaking score was affected by a technical issue, they can send an application within 15 days of receiving the result. To report a technical issue, applicants have to pay USD 50 or INR 4300, which can be deferred by location. The fee will be refunded if the claim is valid; otherwise, there will be no refund. In case of voucher payment, the free credit voucher will be added. The technical review will not change the entire score, but only rescore it.
How to share PTE Exam Score with Universities?
Candidates who are aiming to study in the UK and other countries can directly share their score report by signing in to their account. Many institutions accept scores through a unique Score Report Code (SRC). Alternatively, candidates can assign their score directly from their myPTE account, which can take at least 48 hours. The UK government authority can directly see the PTE Exam score through the SELT Unique Reference Number (URN) for all Visa applications, whether it's for educational purposes or permanent citizenship.
Sending scores via the myPTE account:
Sign in at mypte.pearsonpte.com and go to the ‘My Activity’ page.
Select ‘Send Scores’ next to the relevant test.
Search and select up to seven institutions at a time to send the scores; this service is free.
Confirm and submit the order.
Institutions can take up to 48 hours to verify the scores after this is done.
An unlimited number of institutions can receive the Score Report, but only seven can be selected at once.
Sharing the Score Report Code (SRC) directly
To share the SRC score directly, click mypte.pearsonpte.com, then navigate to ‘My Activity’ key.
Tap on ‘View Score’ for the test to find the SRC on the on-screen report.
Submit this 10-character SRC code to institutions by any secure method preferred.
Institutions use the SRC to retrieve and verify the test results electronically without waiting for the score to be assigned.
This method allows institutions immediate access to the scores on Pearson’s verification platform once they enter the SRC
