Panjab University was initially established in Lahore in 1882 and shifted to Chandigarh between 1958-1960. The university comprises six constituent colleges and 202 associated colleges located throughout Chandigarh and Punjab. Additionally, Panjab University is accredited by NAAC with an “A+” grade. It is a Central and State Government-funded university with 25 th NIRF Ranking in 2023. The university also got ranked #1001-1200 in the QS World University ranking in 2024.
The Panjab University offers a wide range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral programs, including BE, B.Tech, MBA, MA, BTech, MPhil, PhD, etc, in different specialisations. The course is available in full-time mode, and admission to these courses is merit-based as well as entrance-based, depending on the type of course.
The PU Chandigarh campus is spread over 550 acres and features top-class facilities, including classrooms, book-stocked libraries, a hostel, and much more. Candidates must fulfil the basic eligibility requirements listed in the Joint Admission Committee (JAC 202) Information Brochure 2025 to be admitted to the BE program. However, admission is based on the JEE entrance exam marks.
A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as a BE or BTech, and acceptable GATE scores are required for admission to the MTech program.
Candidates for the MPharma program must have a valid GPAT score and a 55% B.Pharma from PCI-approved universities. Non-GPAT candidates will only be considered for admission to the Self-Finance courses if there are still openings after all GPAT-eligible applicants have been accepted.
Candidates must meet the requirements for the MBA program, which include having a bachelor's degree from a recognised university with at least 50% marks. A valid CAT or PUMET score is necessary in addition to a bachelor's degree. All applicants must go through a personal interview and group discussion; however, non-qualified CAT or PU MET students must take an entrance exam administered by the institution. The percentage is calculated as follows: 85% for CAT/MET, 7.5% for group discussion, and 7.5% for personal interview.
For admission to the PhD program, the minimum requirements include qualifying national entrance exams such as UGC NET, GATE, SLET, etc. Additionally, candidates must have a master's degree with at least 55% marks. Students in the SC/ST or reserved categories are granted a 5% relaxation.

Panjab University Scholarships 2025
Panjab University offers various scholarships to its students to provide financial aid and motivate them in their studies. These scholarships include: Merit scholarships, Scholarships for SC/ST category students, scholarships for students with disabilities, etc. However, there are some conditions to be eligible for the required scholarship, such as the student's family income must be less than INR 5 lakhs to get the need-cum-merit basis stipend. For merit scholarships, students must secure 60% marks in aggregate in the last semester of their course.
About 2500 scholarships were given in 2017 to students with disabilities. The Scholarship amount consists of course fees, books & stationery allowance, maintenance allowance, and aids & appliances of the student.
