To be eligible for the PhD Degree Program at National Law University and Judicial Academy Assam, candidates must meet one of the following criteria. First, applicants must have a Master's Degree in Law with a minimum of 55% marks or its equivalent CGPA. Alternatively, candidates holding a Master's Degree in any other discipline with at least 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA may be eligible, provided their proposed research focuses on law, particularly public policy or law.
In addition, candidates with judicial experience are eligible if they have served as a District and Sessions Judge or in an equivalent position for a minimum of five years, as a Judge of a High Court for at least two years, or as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Furthermore, professionals who have passed the Company Secretary Examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) or the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and whose research focuses on law are also eligible to apply.
Candidates who are awaiting the final results of their qualifying examination may apply provisionally, but they must submit the final results during the presentation of their PhD proposals. The 55% marks requirement is relaxed to 50% for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category and Differently Abled Persons (DAP). Preference will be given to candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) and/or State Eligibility Test (SET).
