NIT Puducherry Admission Process
NIT Puducherry has a great range of programs at the Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Doctoral levels in the disciplines of Engineering, Sciences, and Humanities. The admissions are mostly entrance-based and are conducted at the national level in the form of JEE Main, GATE, IIT JAM, and a written test/interview conducted by the institute itself. The admission process is done via centralised portals, such as JoSAA (B.Tech), CCMT (M.Tech), CCMN (M.Sc), and Samarth (Ph.D) programs.
NIT Puducherry Admission 2025
NIT Puducherry provides admission in B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Tech by Research and Ph.D programmes in departments such as Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Civil, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities. The admissions to B.Tech are done on the basis of JEE Main and then JoSAA/CSAB counselling. JEE Main 2025 took place in January and April, and JoSAA counselling began on 10 June 2025 and is still ongoing.
The admission to M.Tech is done based on GATE 2025 scores via CCMT. The registration period was between 14 May and 4 June 2025, and seat allotment of regular rounds has been done. The special rounds of CSAB to fill up vacant seats will be held between 6 August and 22 August 2025. Admission to M.Sc. courses is in progress through CCMN based on IIT JAM scores.
NIT Puducherry does its admission to M.Tech by Research and Ph.D. programmes. The deadline to apply was 6 May 2025, and written tests and interviews were conducted from 19 June 2025 to 21 June 2025. The final selection results will be announced at the end of June, and admissions are expected in early July. The updates are all on the official website of the institute.

NIT Puducherry Eligibility Criteria 2025
The eligibility criteria for admission to various programmes at NIT Puducherry for the academic year 2025 vary based on the course level. For undergraduate B.Tech programmes, candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects. Additionally, qualification in JEE Main is mandatory, and admissions are granted through JoSAA or CSAB counselling. Candidates from economically weaker sections may also be eligible for tuition fee waivers based on family income.
For postgraduate programmes, candidates seeking admission to M.Tech must hold a B.E. or B.Tech degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks for General/OBC/EWS categories and 55% marks for SC/ST/PwD categories. A valid GATE score is required for CCMT counselling-based admissions. For M.Sc programmes, applicants must have a B.Sc degree in the relevant subject and must qualify in IIT JAM, followed by CCMN counselling.
For Ph.D. programmes, a Masterās degree in a relevant field with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) is required. Candidates applying for M.Tech by Research must hold a B.E. or B.Tech with 60% marks (55% for reserved categories). GATE qualification is not mandatory for institute-level admission to the M.Tech by Research programme.
NIT Puducherry UG Admission 2025
NIT Puducherry offers B.Tech admission for the academic year 2025-26 in five core engineering disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. To be eligible, candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, securing at least 75% marks (or be in the top 20 percentile) from a recognised board. Admission is strictly based on JEE Main 2025 scores, followed by JoSAA or CSAB counselling. Applicants must register on the respective portal, participate in counselling, and submit the required documents within the stipulated timeline.
The B.Tech fee for the first semester is INR 72,400 for GEN/OBC candidates with family income above INR 5 lakh, INR 30,733 for income between INR 1ā5 lakh, and INR 9,900 for income below INR 1 lakh. SC/ST/PwD students also pay INR 9,900. From the second semester onward, the institute fee is reduced to INR 5,450. Tuition fee waivers are available based on income slabs.
NIT Puducherry PG Admission 2025 (M.Tech & M.Sc)
For the academic year 2025-26, NIT Puducherry offers postgraduate admissions to M.Tech and M.Sc programmes across various specialisations. M.Tech admissions are primarily conducted through the CCMT portal based on GATE 2025 scores. However, the institute also offers institute-level seats for leftover vacancies after CCMT counselling, for which a valid GATE score is not mandatory. Available M.Tech specialisations include Power Electronics, VLSI Design, Design Engineering, and Computer Science & Engineering. To be eligible, candidates must have a B.E. or B.Tech degree with at least 60% marks for General/OBC/EWS categories and 55% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates. The fee for M.Tech in the first semester is INR 45,510 for GEN/OBC/EWS students and INR 10,510 for SC/ST/PwD students.
For M.Sc admissions, the institute offers specialisations in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Candidates must hold a B.Sc. degree in a relevant discipline and have a valid IIT JAM 2025 score. Admission is granted through CCMN counselling. The first semester fee for M.Sc is INR 18,010 for GEN/OBC/EWS and INR 10,510 for SC/ST/PwD students. All shortlisted candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria and complete the counselling and document verification process within the scheduled timeline.
NIT Puducherry Admission to M.Tech (By Research) 2025
NIT Puducherry offers admission to the M.Tech (By Research) programme for the academic year 2025-26 in specialised fields such as Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, VLSI Design, Power Electronics, Computer Science, and Design Engineering. This is a research-oriented postgraduate programme, and admission is based on a written test and interview conducted by the institute. To be eligible, candidates must have a B.Tech degree with at least 60% marks for GEN/OBC/EWS or 55% marks for SC/ST/PwD categories. GATE qualification is not mandatory for institute-level seats. The first semester fee is INR 13,360 for GEN/OBC and INR 5,860 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Ph.D Admission 2025 at NIT Puducherry
NIT Puducherry has a Ph.D. programme in different fields in Engineering, Sciences, and Humanities in the academic year 2025-26. The institute holds a written test and an interview, which are used to carry out admissions. The candidates who have valid scores in GATE, NET, or JRF can also apply and are eligible to get Institute Fellowships. Departments that offer Ph.D. programmes are Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, ECE, Mechanical Engineering, English, and Social Sciences. The applicants should possess a Master's degree with 60 % marks in GEN/OBC/EWS or 55 % marks in SC/ST/PwD. There is also direct admission to Ph.D. for the UG students of exceptional calibre who have scored a minimum CGPA of 8.5. The GEN/OBC students will pay INR 19,375 and SC/ST/PwD students will pay INR 11,875 in the first semester fee. A thesis submission fee of INR 10,000 will be charged at the last step.
