Freeship, Scholar and Achiever Scholarships for B.Tech program
1. B.Tech Scholarships (MIT Bengaluru)
These scholarships are for students joining B.Tech at MIT Bengaluru under the General category.
Basic requirements are students need at least 80% marks in Maths + Physics + optional subject in Class 12.
Freeship Scholarship
The Freeship scholarship gives a 100% waiver on the course fee. This means the main tuition fee does not have to be paid at all. However, expenses like hostel, food, books and other personal costs have to be managed by the student independently.
Paying the Fee at the Start
When a student joins, the full first year fee plus a refundable deposit of INR 10,000 has to be paid advance. The extra amount gets refunded after Semester 1 results are out. But this refund only happens if the student scores 8 CGPA or above with no backlogs. Moreover, INR 10,000 is the minimum fee every year and no student pays less than this amount.
Scholar Scholarship
The Scholar scholarship gives a 20% waiver on the course fee. It is not a full waiver, but it does reduce the fee by a decent amount. Personal expenses like hostel, food, and books are not covered and have to be managed separately by the student.
The full first-year fee along with a refundable deposit of INR 10,000 has to be paid when joining. The extra amount is refunded within 3 months but only after the student submits the filled scholarship form and scores 8 CGPA or above with no backlogs in Semester 1.
Note: For both of these scholarships some of the general rules are given below
How Selection Works
The student with the best MET rank in their branch gets the scholarship first
Admission must be completed in Round 1 of counselling
If that student leaves or upgrades their branch, the scholarship moves to the next best rank holder
Students who only waitlisted in Round 1 are not eligible
Rules to Keep the Scholarship Every Year
A minimum of 8 CGPA with no backlogs is required every year
If CGPA less than 8, the scholarship is lost for that year
Failing a subject, getting incomplete grades, or being detained means the scholarship stops for that year
Poor attendance or any disciplinary action leads to cancellation
Changing the branch at the start of 2nd year means the scholarship is permanently lost
If a Student Leaves the Course Early
If a student leaves for any reason before completing the course, the full fee must be paid back for every year the scholarship was used. No exceptions are made to this rule.
Achiever Scholarship
The Achiever scholarship provides a 20% waiver on the course fee. It is not given at the time of admission. Instead, it is awarded based on how well a student performs each year. Personal expenses like hostel, food and books are not covered.
Who Gets It
The Achiever scholarship is given to the top 5% students of each branch every year. Freeship and Scholar students are not counted in this 5%. Transfer students cannot get it in their year of joining, but can qualify from 3rd year onward based on performance.
When It Applies:
Year | Based On |
1st Year | Not applicable |
2nd Year | Sem 1 + Sem 2 performance |
3rd Year | Sem 3 + Sem 4 performance |
4th Year | Sem 5 + Sem 6 performance |
There is no scholarship based on final year performance.
How Students Are Selected
Minimum 8 CGPA with no backlogs is required
If two students have the same CGPA, the tie is broken by checking:
Who has more A+ grades (90% and above)
Who has more A grades (80% and above)
Who has higher total marks
Who has better attendance
