IIT Roorkee Eligibility Criteria
IIT Roorkee admission criteria for each program depend on the national-level entrance exam scores, eligibility requirements, and availability of seats. Eligibility criteria may vary depending on the program or course a candidate has chosen. Some of the IIT Roorkee courses may require an interview or a written test conducted by the institute. Candidates interested in pursuing BArch must have passed Class 12th (Mathematics), have a valid JEE Advanced score and must participate in the JoSAA Counselling.

IIT Roorkee UG Admissions 2026
Undergraduate admissions at IIT Roorkee are mainly done for BTech and B.Arch programs. Admission is based on the JEE Advanced rank. Candidates must qualify for JEE Main first to appear for JEE Advanced. The final selection is done through JoSAA counselling. The application process begins in October-November and ends in May every year. For this year, JEE Advanced application closed on 2 May 2026. For JEE Advanced, an application fee of INR 3,200 is to be paid by candidates (General Category).
For B.Tech: Passed Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics + JEE Advanced Score.
For B.Arch: Passed Class 12th with Mathematics + Qualified JEE Advanced.
IIT Roorkee BTech Admission 2026
IIT Roorkee offers BTech in CE, CSE, EE, ME, Biotechnology, etc., specialisations. A candidate is obligated to fulfil basic eligibility criteria, i.e., passed Class 12th (PCM) with minimum required percentage from a recognised board and must have qualified JEE Advanced. IIT Roorkee fee structure for this course may vary depending on the chosen specialisation. The BTech fee structure starts from INR 1,00,000 per semester.

Admissions for M.Tech courses are open. Candidates who have appeared and have a valid GATE 2026 scorecard are eligible to apply for MTech courses. IIT Roorkee's M.Tech admission includes a wide range of specialisations. Each requires a valid GATE score and a relevant Bachelor’s degree. The per-semester fee structure of MTech is INR 5,000.

IIT Roorkee Ph.D Admissions 2026
Ph.D programs at IIT Roorkee are available in all major disciplines and are aimed at research and academic careers. The duration typically ranges from 3 to 5 years. Candidates having qualified scores in any of the UGC/ CSIR/ DBT/ DST/ INSPIRE/ ICMR are eligible for PhD courses.
Eligibility criteria, apart from UGC- NET/ JRF/ DBT, etc., a candidate must fulfil the following:
Master’s in the relevant field with a minimum of 60% marks.
All category candidates who have a 4-year bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 7.5 CGPA or 75%.
Applicants having MS and MD degrees are exempted from the minimum eligibility requirement.
Note: 5% eligibility relaxation is given to reserved categories.
