The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a forefront institute for science and technology. It is ranked 7th by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 in the Engineering category.
IITH provides various undergraduate and graduate courses. These are Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Design (M.Des), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Arts (M.A.), and other programmes.
The IIT Hyderabad course Admission is based on entrance examinations. For B.Tech., the required test is the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced). For B.Des, the required test is the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED).
The applicants should have completed 10+2 in Mathematics and Science with Physics and Chemistry from a recognised central or state board. Besides, they should have scored at least 75% of the total marks. For postgraduate programs, IIT Hyderabad Admissions are based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score for M.Tech, M.Sc by research, PhD, and IIT JAM for M.Sc, Joint M.Sc, etc.
For IIT Hyderabad M.Tech admissions 2026, the applicants should have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or the Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) (AMIE). At least 55% of the total marks are required. For Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), the minimum percentage of marks is 50.
Besides, IITH offers a PhD programme. IIT Hyderabad B.Tech Admission Detail
IIT Hyderabad has a variety of B.Tech programmes to choose from when planning a bright engineering future. Admission to the college is based solely on the score of the IIT-JEE Advanced exam. Various areas like Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology and Computing, etc., are available for students at the institute. IIT Hyderabad Selection Process for B.Tech Courses
To get admission to the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) in the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) course, applicants must secure the minimum cut-off marks in the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced). Then, they have to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) Counselling.
Moreover, candidates should have completed Class 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised state or central board. They are required to have at least 75% aggregate marks. The minimum marks for the SC, ST and PwD categories are 65%.
IIT Hyderabad B.Des Admission Details
The Department of Design at IIT Hyderabad provides a full-time undergraduate design course – Bachelor of Design (B.Des). Students are given the freedom to choose any of the core design fields of Product Design, Visual Communication, and Interaction Design.
IIT Hyderabad Selection Process for B.Des Courses
Admission to B.Des requires a valid Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) score. The department also has a B.Des + M.Des Dual Degree that is a full-time, five-year programme. Eligible students for this alternative are decided upon their performance, including CGPA and portfolio, and they may receive a call by the end of their third year.
Moreover, the department offers a B.Des to PhD pathway, whereby students may be allowed direct conversion to a PhD programme on account of their performance and the calibre of a research proposal. A formal application accompanied by the Head of the Department's endorsement is required, and the deadline is also the last day of instruction of the sixth semester.
To get admission into the B.Des programme, applicants should fall within the required age limit, have a valid UCEED 2026 rank, and must have passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026. Students from the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics can apply to all seven institutes.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Hyderabad Postgraduate Courses
To get admitted to postgraduate programmes at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, candidates should meet the eligibility criteria for postgraduate courses given below.
Eligibility for Master of Technology (M.Tech) - Regular
The applicants must have a B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) or B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) degree in a related field from a recognised institute approved by the government.
Students who are in the final semester of their B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) or B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) degree can also apply for this IIT Hyderabad (Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad) course.
Students must also get the minimum required marks in the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) entrance exam.
IIT students who have a minimum 8 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) in any field can apply for the IIT Hyderabad M.Tech (Master of Technology) course without writing the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam.
Eligibility for Master of Technology (M.Tech) Self-Sponsored
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, a B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering) or a B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) in any related field from a recognised institution.
However, GATE is optional for candidates who have a minimum 7 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) in the Bachelor’s degree. These candidates must still appear for the written test and also attend a personal interview.
Master of Technology (M.Tech) with Research Assistantship
For admission to the Master of Technology (M.Tech) with Research Assistantship at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad / IITH), a Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks is required. The minimum mark for reserved categories is 45%.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is optional for:

Eligibility for Master of Design (M.Des) - Regular

Eligibility for Master of Design (M.Des) Project
To apply for the Master of Design (M.Des) Project programme at IIT Hyderabad (Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad), candidates must have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, a professional programme, or any equivalent professional qualification.
Fresh candidates must appear for the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). The selection will be based on the CEED score, project work, and portfolio review.
Candidates who have scored at least 8 CGPA in their Bachelor’s degree or have at least 6 months of project experience at IIT Hyderabad may not need to appear for the CEED exam.
Eligibility for Master of Design (M.Des) by Practice
For IIT Hyderabad admission to the Master of Design (M.Des) by Practice programme, candidates must have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree.

IIT Hyderabad Dual Degree Admissions
